Airplay 2 in second zone

Is it possible to use zone 1 to watch a movie on a appleTV 4k and use airplay from my computer or IOS device to listen to music in zone 2 at the same time? I have not purchased the Yamaha 780 yet but it is the one I am interested in.

speaker setup question

I have a family room with a kitchen nearby. There is a 5.1 setup in the FR. We have a single speaker in the kitchen to augment TV sound. How best to connect this to new Yamaha A880?

thanks
Ken

Hi I have a new 880 and all worked perfectly including bluetooth which connected perfectly to my iphone and streamed my music. However second time I tried to connect and the RX wasnt responding. It doesnt come up on my bluetooth list. In the bluetooth menu on the RX there isonly _ _ _ where there should be the on/off options. Does anyone have any idea whats happening?

Couple of questions:

- Anyone know why Yamaha dropped front HDMI inputs and removable power cables?

- Are all the HDMI ports equal in specifications (HDCP, bandwidth, etc.)?

What are the differences between the RX-V585 and the RX-A680?

I did miss this when downgrading from the larger 2060 to 880...

They are pretty much the same except the A680 gives you a 5th foot on the bottom center and an extra year of warranty since it is an Aventage model.

The A-780 and above all have detachable power cords. That's a trademark of the Aventage line except for the 6 series like the 680. The 670 and 660 did not have detachable power cords either. The 660, 670 and 680 only have 4 HDMI inputs. All on the back. RX-A7x0 series and higher have front HDMI inputs. You just need to move up one level in the Aventage line.

The RX-V series doesn't have detachable power cord until you step up to the RX-V1085 and 2085.

I don't see front HDMI ports on any of their current models.

They must have stopped it on the RX-Ax80 models. I had a A760 that had it and the next year's A770 had front HDMI too. Hmm, don't know why they stopped.

Hmmm... Bluetooth 2.1+EDR?

I'm looking at the details on Crutchfield and it looks like all of the current models are also using a very old Bluetooth standard...

Looking at an 880 to replace my glitching UMC-200 as a preamp-processor for a 5.2 system (Paradigm Monitor 7 tower mains/ C1 center). The glass shelf for the upper rack would be 2" above the 880's top vent (plenty of space near the side vent). If I use the pre-outs and let the Acurus A125 do the amp duties, would there be enough cooling for the 880 or would I need to add USB top fans to vent the air to the rear?

Go Duke !

I’d set cooler fans regardless if it needs it or not, just to be on the safe side. Our 880’s are an investment that you would want to keep for a long time. You don’t lose anything by adding a fan.

I have 2 b&w floorstand front speakers and 2 b&w m1’s as rear speakers with a sony dn1080 at the moment. But I don’t like the clarity of the dialogue at te moment when i listen to surround streams. You hear a lot of sound effects, but no clear voices when talking. I have to set a high volume to hear people speak clear but the other sounds are to loud when i do that. I have tried everything. A easy fix would be to level up the center volume, but I don’t have one. The only way I can control the dialog level is with dts:ex streams, most streams i listen to are dolby atmos and true hd so that’s no fix for me. Calibrate the receiver, tried everything, change eq, all the sound options, it don’t fix my problem. I like good music quality but also like a better movie experience.

So i’m thinking about the Yamaha receivers mainly because of the dialog level setting, who improve the dialog quality but you don’t need a center for that, that would be perfect for my needs.

I can buy a a880 for 990 euro or a a780 for 650 euro. Is a 880 worth the 350 euro difference for my needs? And what about probably step up to the a1080 (1375 euro) because of surround ai, is that a nice improvement for me? The a1070 is also cheaper for around 1040 euro at the moment. I can’t decide between them all 😊

Agreed - I just didn't want to add noise needlessly.

BTW, it doesn't look like you can manually set crossover slopes - mine are currently all at 24 dbs. Is there a default setting or does YPAO select it?

I would get the 1070 over the 880 since it is only a 50 euro difference. going from the 780-880 is a 350 euro difference which is a pretty big jump. would you use the full set of preouts on the 880? Not much difference between A780 and A880 except for preouts and 2 extra HDMI inputs
