Am l doing something wrong?
No, that's totally normal. If you get an Atmos signal you will always see "Atmos/xyz" on the screen, depending on the source:

Atmos/DTHD - The best. The full lossless TrueHD Dolby Atmos (usually from discs, average 3.000-8.000kbps sound quality)
Atmos/DD+ - Lossy Dolby Atmos via Dolby Digital Plus (usually streaming content like Netflix, average 384-768kbps)
Atmos/PCM - You get an already decoded Atmos signal from the source (on Xbox it can be anything - like standard 5.1 - because the Xbox always send the signal with "Atmos" label, even the signal is just 5.1)

The previous models only show "Dolby Atmos" on the screen, but in the info bar you can see the full information. Check the pictures in comment 1127 and earlier we talked about this from 1107.

The lower end Yamaha models are usually announced April,May,June
The Flagship Aventage Models a month or two later.

My Best Guess, no later than this time next year

Agree, the 80 line was announced in spring as you mentioned and released in September in EU. I think they all do like this year to year, Marantz just released SR5014/SR6014, like Denon the X2600/X3600.

Because they all skipped this year with flagship AVRs, maybe they will release the new earlier in 2020, but it depends on the HDMI 2.1 "certificate"...

High-pitched squeal at idle (RX-V2085)

Hi y'all,

I recently picked up an RX-V2085 (which is relatively identical to the RX-A2080) from Adorama and there is a quiet, high pitched squeal coming from the unit when it is powered off. As soon as I turn it on, the squeal goes away. And squeal isn't quite the correct word. It sounds like a very fast cricket chirping. It's not loud, but it's noticeable when I'm sitting next to the unit in a quiet room. Any suggestions? It doesn't have the buzz of a faulty transformer. Relay maybe?

I'm a DIY sort of person so I don't mind rooting around in there if it's a simple fix, but it's under warranty so I'm debating contacting Yamaha. Honestly I'd rather not, but... well, that's why I'm in here asking you fine folks for suggestions.

I'm past the 30 day return period, unfortunately. The only official channel is warranty, which I'm trying to avoid because it means extra expense for me and a system that's down for an indeterminate amount of time. Looking more and more like that's what I'll need to do, however.

That's possible, I had a new TV that chirped when off and it turned out to be the power supply. But if I remember right it chirped when on also.

Probably? I guess I could pull the lid off and poke around for anything obvious. I was hoping someone had a similar issue and could hop in, though I realize that's probably unlikely. I searched and couldn't find anyone complaining about something similar.

Ugh. I hate warranty repairs.

It definitely helps to know it's not normal behavior. I mean, I didn't expect it to be, but it's good to have confirmation.

- Volume change from barely audible to blaring loud
- Sound Mode changing randomly

I'll update my post when I hear back from the Service Center.

Picked up my 2080 last Friday (luckily I only live 30 minutes from one of the Yamaha service centers). The repair shop tech said it was the Volume Control Board, which they replaced. I have everything hooked back up and will be testing it out to see if the problem occurs again.

Does anyone know if it is possible to pass VRR and ALL through the receiver's eARC?

I have xbox one X with an LG C9 and I can use VRR and ALL, but when passing through the Yamaha RX-A2080 these options do not work on the Xbox.

Regards.

eARC was introduced with HDMI 2.1. eARC is for digital audio and is available on several AVR's and AVP's today from Denon, Marantz, Yamaha and likely other companies. eARC does not, and will not carry video.

VRR and ALLM are HDMI 2.1 video features.

HDMI 2.1 can be implemented feature by feature.

Thanks for your answers.

So with Xbox doing ATMOS and the 3080 reading the dics correctly should l keep it the XboxoneX, or upgrade to a dedicated UHD 4k Bluray OR add 2x Surround Rears so l have 7.2.4?

Your thoughts.

Thanks

I have an XBO X, Oppo 203 and a Panasonic UB900,
The XBO only get used for Games and Netflix ATMOS titles.

The 3080 only has 9 internal amplifiers,
So you need to add an external amp to power a 7.2.4 setup.

While features like eARC, VRR, and ALL are listed under HDMI 2.1 spec features, existing 2.0 chipsets can support such features in some cases depending on the manufacturer and the inherent limitations of the hdmi chipset in the device. Either from day one or via firmware update.

For example, eARC is now supported on my 2070 with 2.70 firmware and some users with TVs like the LG C9 have confirmed it works as did Rtings. Even my fat Xbox One shows VRR and ALL as options after a firmware update a year or more ago though my Samsung MU8000 doesn't support it nor does the 2070 so I can't test it out. And I'm pretty sure that version of the Xbox One is HDMI 1.4 or older.

True 2.1 support is 48 Gbps bandwidth on the HDMI ports and the LG C9 is the only one I heard about that has that. However, some high end AVRs from companies like Denon and Marantz have AVRs that can have the HDMI board swapped out with a true 2.1 one in the future as an available upgrade path.

Hey All looking for some help.
Ive had my RX A2080 for a few months and had some intermittent audio dropouts. When watching 4k Blu Ray i had the same audio dropouts lasting a few seconds.
The problem was getting worse and i had to restart the unit to get it working.
Today i just lost audio altogether. On cable box, BD player and even bluetooth from my phone doesnt work now.

Is this a straight up warranty issue or am i completely missing something?
FW is up to date.

Thanks

Sounds like warranty to me. This is exactly what my RX-Z1 did before it quit altogether (power supply failure)

I recently purchased an antimode from DSpeaker to calibrate my Paradigm sub. Suddenly all the boom has gone and the bass is tighter and appropriate. Just goes to show what a lousy job of sub eq ypao does.

Does the RX-A3080 support MQA Streaming with Tidal? Is there other ways to decode MQAs with the RX-A3080? I don't want to purchase the Tidal service and find out the hard way.
