If it has 3 sub outputs wouldn’t it be listed as 9.3.6?

Not necessarily. It would be listed as x.3.x only if they are independent sub channels. If there are 3 sub outputs and it is listed as x.1.x then that means that the processor measures and treats all connected subs as a single channel. Just as if you had one output then used a cable splitter to connect multiple subs to the single output. The only difference is that they provided the splitter for you internally.

Strictly speaking the middle number refers to the number of subwoofer channels in the soundtrack, which AFAIK is always one, but people have taken to using it for the number of playback subs.

There is a link on the 1st page for the manual, and I put up pictures of the rear as well. Read up, and do the research.

Interesting to hear that Emotiva is going to release different processors throughout the year.
I am also curious why the question about when Dirac will be available on the RMC-1 wasn't brought up or asked of Dan...

No doubt it was a condition of the interview. As for multiple processors - let's see if they can get the RMC-1 working first.

I couldn't agree more about this. Need to build confidence in their customer base....but considering how many folks bought the RMC-1 already, I don't know if that is really a concern.

My UMC-1 wouldn't even boot half of the time, and could almost never stay locked on an HDMI signal of any audio type or video resolution.

I abandoned Emotiva in 2012 for an Oppo 105 which has been 100% stable on every firmware update since the initial release (up-to and including today.)

I was burned so bad by the UMC-1 that I find it extremely difficult to ever consider Emotiva as a processor making company. Every firmware was unstable and unusable (to this day.)

Their solution: to totally abandon their UMC-1 customers for the newer UMC-2 [side-grade]
and now: XMC-1/RMC-1 ["up"-grade].
Ye be warned.

The same level as many of the multiple issues with the RMC.

But with the RMC on day one:
  • Dolby and DTS soundtracks suffered repeatable audio drops, pops and clicks no matter the source device. Pops were at same volume levels as the audio and could cause speaker damage.
  • Digital audio signals caused audio freezes and a loud buzzing sound, requiring a full reboot to correct issue.
  • hdmi sync issues (loss of either audio or video) when switching inputs.
  • constant hum when using balanced input on reference stereo mode - RMC will lock up requiring a full reboot.
  • During cold restart, RMC will freeze and require a full reboot. In other words you can't use the Video on Standby power mode.
  • RMC cycles through audio playback modes when fed a PCM signal.
  • RMC may choose reference stereo mode when fed surround format.

I do expect a processor be able to turn on and off and be able to work with some fairly popular source equipment and popular audio formats upon release.
A release that prevents users from watching a movie without a full system reboot or fear of equipment damage.
I'm not sure how much clearer I could have been... but maybe next time, they will weigh what I say with more weight.

Emotiva should stick to analog. Their public relations in digital is ungood.

You based your warnings on the UMC-1... I based my statements and decision on my experience with my XMC-1 release. You literally quoted why I made my choice yet you feel the need to come into an owners thread of a product you don't own and take shots at owners?!?

Should I ever choose to use someone's opinion before my own experience, it won't be from someone who needs that sort of self gratification.

I would think that after the 2nd product launch failure, people might think a bit about buying it the next time. I always like them for some reason. This is making me second think the choice of my future pre-pro even if I have a 40% rebate. I really think that this is adding to all the previous bugs they had. Honestly, I hope it all get solved fast. I'm not a buyer that buy the latest and newest, so if it get all sorted out when I'm ready to buy it, it might still be a good option.

Wish you all rmc-1 owners, a perfectly working unit in a really close future

Lonnie over on the Emo forums just posted this:

Hello Gentlemen,

I’m sorry I’ve been away for a week but Dan and I have been at CES.

Even though I wasn’t in the office, my team has been working round the clock. There was a particularly nasty bug that actually had nothing to do with any of our code. There is a particular counter buried in the DSP code that was causing all kinds of issues. We have figured it out and are working with the chip designers to resolve this. We have also been working on some other reports from customers and plan to do a code release once it is vetted. So please be patient a little longer.

From Emo lounge 6 hours ago,

Good news gentleman, We have found the root cause of the big nasty bug and have resolved it. As I stated previously it was a register in the DSP (something we have no access too) that was causing all the grief. But with some help from the chip designers, it has been resolved. Now we are looking into some unrelated reports to see what is going on there, so thank you all for your patience. Once we are confident we have everything in order and have fully tested it, we will be doing a code release.

Best regards,

Lonnie

Ha....I believe you're correct. I bought an RMC-1 in the initial batch and have been sitting on it deceding wether to break it open or not. I only have a 7.1.4 and dumbo me didn't realize that there was a RMC-2 coming out which would make more sense channel and $$$ wise

rmc-2 is not fully dual-differential channels anymore. 3 main + 1 sub only.
that's according to latest video spoke by dan.

if that's what you don't care about, going rmc-2 probably gonna save you 999 dollars.

So the rmc-2 is what the much cheaper xmc-2 was supposed to be but still with the high $4k price tag?

Between official emotiva podcasts to speculation and rumor over years of unreleased product it's really hard to keep it all straight.

Now I know why all the major players stay silent until they release their products. Eliminates all this confusion.

Nope, the XMC-2 is still cheaper at $3000. The main difference between the RMC-2, now officially called RMC-1L, and the XMC-2 is that the RMC-1L is 9.1.6 and the XMC-2 is 7.1.4.

Granted this RMC release is NOTHING like the XMC-1 release, but I'll compare the two as it relates to Dirac. The XMC was also released without Dirac. I think it was about 6 weeks after the XMC release, which was stable at time of release, when Dirac was added via firmware update. I don't recall any Dirac software issues with the XMC, maybe a few with mic calibration files, but nothing with how Dirac worked with the XMC.

I only say this because the RMC is still not in a stable working condition. Once Emotiva gets it stable I would think it might be 4-6 weeks before the Dirac rollout. The Dirac rollout should be fairly straight forward and bug free. *famous last words*

I am awaiting the next firmware update to hopefully fix the issues I am having with DTS tracks, but Dolby tracks work perfectly fine. I think the RMC-1 sounds fantastic, and I know of another who heard it in my system and has taken the plunge to get one.
