I still have two of the 40% off cards, and was burned as a Beta tester of the UMC-1, UMC-200, XMC-1, XMC-1 upgrade boards and so on.

They may get this one functional one day, but that day is a long way off.

Too bad, as they seem to be a good company who makes huge promises and can't deliver.

Come on now, do we have to go so far as to equate the RMC-1 to a head of lettuce? It's not that bad, is it?

Is it really, though?

Too bad they apparently can't afford enough engineers to get the job done, because their processors are fascinating in theory. Even though I make the occasional sarcastic remark, I do genuinely hope they get it figured out, although I doubt I'll ever get one, too expensive for me.

The RMC-1 was my first choice for a processor back in the Spring of 2018. Now it's Spring 2019 and the thing still needs work. I am using a 2 AVR solution now for my .6 Atmos needs but it has its quarks too (though it does indeed work). I am now looking forward to seeing what Monoprice can do with 9.X.6...

New to the RMC-1

So I’ve had my RMC-1 since the 14th of this month. It replaced my Anthem D2v3D in my theater. I have not had too many teething issues with it. Sometimes it does not recognize an input when started from a standby mode. But that is fixed with a full power cycle. Sure a bit of a pain, but when we did the shakeout of the 3d Board on the Anthem it was full of bugs.

I am just running a 7.1 configuration with a projector. So no Atmos in the mix.

What are the bugs other are experiencing? Overall the Sound on this piece is amazing. Better than the Anthem.

How far is Emotiva around to have Dirac working on the RMC-1 ?

Since it's not working yet ,how do you measure your Loudspeakers now ?

How long is a piece of string?

At this time there is no ETA for Emotiva to even get the basics fixed.

In other words don't hold your breath.

If your talking basics fixed .

Is it at least possible to watch a movie in Dolby or DTS whatsoever without having dropped sound ?

I still chuckle that a non-functioning product won "Best of CEDIA" award by AVS. Make no mistake though, I will absolutely buy one if the promises come to fruition. I want this to succeed because the legal fees I will incur from my wife if I buy a Trinnov are too much to bare.

I would estimated Emotiva is 3+ months from putting Dirac into a working RMC unit. they have a long list of bug to work out before they can introduce something like a room correction system.

  • Audio dropouts every 7-10 minutes with DTS soundtracks and dropouts every 40-50 minutes with Dolby soundtracks
  • Difficulty locking onto audio from a TV box. Once locked on, you may lose audio by switching channels or pausing content.
  • Audio dropouts from your cable box if you don't change channels or pause content every ~40 minutes.
  • RMC fails to lock onto a hdmi input when switching from one input to another. Sometimes you will get both audio and video. sometimes just audio, sometimes just video. I have a JVC projector and due to JVC's very robust but also lengthy hdmi sync times, I often get nothing but a blue screen. I'm guessing this is because the JVC is trying to confirm hdmi sync while the RMC is taking time switching from one input to the next and not sending a hdmi signal. That in turn causes the JVC to think there is no hdmi signal and will default to a blue screen.
  • When switching inputs due to a failed hdmi sync, if I use the knob on the front of the RMC or the RMC remote, the OLED on the RMC quickly displays the newly selected input name. HOWEVER, if I use my Harmony remote and the macro it uses, the RMC always would display the newly selected input on the left OLED and would continue to the the previous input on the right OLED, sometimes for up to 20 seconds.
  • When exiting the levels submenu under Speaker Presets, the RMC outputs a surround sound mix regardless of the number of channels that preset has. For example, if I adjust the levels in my 2.1 Speaker Preset and exit out, this is the sound I hear...
  • When loading your user presets there is no progress bar to let you know the RMC is loading your settings.
  • Sluggish response times.

There are more, smaller issues, but the above listed issues are what I believe is preventing me from enjoying the use of my RMC. All these issues have been reported to Emotiva and I've been told they are working on a resolution.

I was also an early owner of the XMC, the RMC is much worse. By this point with the XMC it had only a few minor hiccups. Nothing that prevents it's use.

At this point I would not buy the RMC and I would not recommend the RMC to anyone. It is not a finished product. I think the road to a fully working product is going to be a long one. Once the RMC is finished, based on the sound I would not have a problem recommending it. but that time may be a year or more away.

I have been following the RMC-1 thread over at the Emotiva lounge. Since I'm maxed out at 7.1.4, I don't need the RMC-1, but was hoping to get the XMC-2 based on the same platform. Needless to say, I'm now looking elsewhere.

This thing has been a disaster and I have my doubts that it will ever get fixed. How can they justify continuing to sell it? No mention of problems on their storefront or podcasts. Emotiva seems to have a grip on analog but they are out of their league on the digital stuff.

High Desert Theater - work in progress

Surrounds - Easy as Pi

Must admit was considering this as an option for the NAD M17v2 I have one issue with, as this priced exactly the same as the NAD in the UK. But looks like I'll stick with the NAD as this seems to have a whole catalogue of woes - George

If it weren’t for the fact that I got it with the discount card I would have returned this thing already. This company is deplorable and arrogant in both their delivery and handling of issues.

What’s most insulting is that emotiva continues to just believe there are no issues and they don’t even participate in the dialogue regarding the issues anymore. The emotiva forum has again lit up with complaints and the only emotiva employee to even respond is a guy who uses it to play video games and says it works well and seems dismissive of the tons of complaints (no surprise).
The first formal review of this thing will change things. But I have to admit sakes must have slowed because everywhere you read there are people complaining.

Why is the discount card a factor?

To my knowledge, you don’t get the card back if you return it, and the card has some value to at least some people.

Seems like a very small price to pay.

I imagine if you paid $500 for the card you bought the RMC-1 for $3k. So if you returned and bought a HTP-1, you end up spending $4500 vs $3500 for the RMC-1. Is that about right? But you should be able to resell it for ~$4k based on what I've seen in the classifieds and on ebay. No? Even if you sold at as low as $3500 you would break even.
