Although I don't necessarily agree with it...I can understand/respect brand loyalty to some degree. That being said, a current RMC-1 owner has to really ask themselves how much additional time and energy they are willing to donate to a piece without any guarantee that it will ever perform up to its initially promised specs. Especially when past track record does not lend itself to an abundance of confidence. A low priced Porsche knock off is only of value if you can drive it off the lot.

Emotiva is still honoring their extended "30-day return window" for the RMC. Anyone who has a RMC can return it for a refund making resale price a non-issue.

I have a RMC sitting in a box right now that was replaced with a 8805. Only reason the RMC hasn't been sent back is the return policy and some hope Emotiva can figure things out sometime soon. If the stability of the processor doesn't change or Dirac seems to be a failure, when Emotiva starts the 30-day countdown on the returns I will try and make sure my RMC is the first unit headed back to Franklin.

That is excellent news, I did not know that policy was in place. Thanks for the correction.

The big issue with Emotiva is that they won't refund the 40% discount card to those that already used it to purchase the RMC-1.

I would say that’s a solid strategy on your part. Additionally, I see no reason for them to start the doomsday clock on returns anytime soon as that would pretty much be brand suicide at this point.

Interesting...my guess is that applies to a majority of current owners. I can’t see many who did any research that would have paid retail.

I have no intention of going beyond 7.x.4 from a speaker perspective. I think that is the sweet spot for home Atmos at the moment. I see very little ROI with top middles in a single row room. I would like to try wides but there is so little content that uses it why bother. However, I do run 4 subs, so I need at least 15 channels.

There is that too.....but I typically don't succumb to peer pressure

The Alt16 is fixed at 16 channels with no expand-ability. It doesn't have digital outs and is limited to 24/96
The Alt32 is modular available with 8, 16, 24, or 32 channels. It has digital outs and is 24/192 on up to 16 channels. It also has an i7 processor vs the i3 on the Alt16.

You have to make the decision on which way you want to go at purchase. I told my dealer to hold my order until I decide. The 16 is a serious kick in the financial balls, while the 32 requires giving up a testicle.
since you’ve got JBL M2’s, did you consider the SCL 75?

Yuppers. That is item #2 why my RMC is still in a box in my basement. If I could get my 40% off coupon back, the RMC would be sent back and I'd keep the 40% off coupon for a while to see if I would purchase again after fixes were put in place, or I'd sell the coupon and put it towards something like a Trinnov or Act-4. But as for right now, I know worst case scenario I'll jut have to pay for return shipping and chalk up all the hours I've spent troubleshooting as a lesson learned.

Sounds like Dirac 2.0 requires more processing power then they anticipated. Will they still be able do Dirac 2.0 at 96kHz or will have to drop down to 48Khz?

I'm not sure of what the new minimum requirements are, but if I remember correctly the RMC had PLENTY of extra horsepower.

It would be a very ridiculous move from Emotiva to say that the RMC-1 now can do only 48KHz because the new Dirac Live 2.0 requires more power from the processor when an entry level 5 years old model like the NAD T758 V3 can run Dirac Live 2.0 and store 3 x Dirac Presets.

From what I heard from the Emotiva during my ownership, I almost felt like it didn't even need it. Sounded better than any audyssey processor I had heard.

Main 2 things are:

1) Audio dropouts/blips fixed?
2) Are Atmos ceiling speakers now configured correctly?

Update failed...

Hi,

I tried to install the new firmware update. At the phase Updating HDMI it failed. A blinking message was telling me to Reboot and Retry. It is what I did and now I'm stucked at the RCM-1 starting screen on the unit.

Is there a solution? Can I force the update?

Thanks for your help!

Power cycle and do a full reset. If that doesn't help then call or email Emotiva. A failed FW update is a pain; it oftens bricks the unit.

Talk to Keith at EMO. You'll have to send the unit in to get it re-flashed. Happened to me twice, now.

Vs Audyssey is a fairly low bar. Even so, have you run an AV8805 in your system?

If your room is acoustically perfect you don't need Dirac or any REQ.

there is no such thing as acoustically "perfect" room, unless maybe if it was built from the ground up with certain properties in mind, even then bass issues will present themselves. No escaping the laws of physics.

Yes. Not only did I run the 8805 first, but I had it professionally calibrated by Mark Seaton. Mark even posted in this thread after doing so. My room is not acoustically perfect, but 12 subs gives me a lot of flexibility for bass response. I owned the 8802a and 7702 prior to the 8805 as well. The Emotiva flat out just sounded better.

There is no disputing that the Emotiva on paper looks like a tremendous bang for the buck. Unfortunately, their current and past track record leads to no other conclusion than the paper isn't worth the powder...

I was dissapointed with how emotiva rolled out the RMC-1. They released it too early, and it was very beta. Despite the many bugs, the excellent consolation was how amazing that it sounded to me. How it sounds is of the utmost importance to me, as is channel count.

Had I not already purchased a Trinnov and more speakers than the Emotiva can handle, I would be looking to possibly rebuy the RMC-1 in order to see if it now meets my needs. It sounds like it now just might, even without room correction.

I may revisit consideration of the RMC-1 if and when they provide the expansion modules for 11.1.8.

For sale: 2 Mackie c300z speakers, Tag Mclaren av32r preamplifier

I agree...I also came from a 8805. I was seriously considering the RMC-1 and almost pulled the trigger a few times. Now that I've made the investment and found a processor that has the stability of the 8805 and the sound quality and functionality the Trinnov has there is no going back for me. Moving from the Trinnov Optimizer back to anything else available even if the RMC-1 worked perfect all of the sudden and had Dirac would be too big a step backwards now that I've experienced Trinnov first hand.
