Anthem MRX series - wait for new lineup?

Hey guys- was looking at upgrading my Marantz 7702 MKII for something from Anthem. Since they have been out for a couple of years any thoughts on something new coming out from Anthem to replace this line? Or just go for it now.

I have no actual info, but seems to me there’s nothing new to upgrade to, i think anthem will stick with this lineup for some time still.

I agree, I don't see much reason to upgrade. The current lineup can pass through 4k, dolby vision, etc, so there is nothing new on the market necessitating the need for an upgrade. You might hold off though, last summer they had a 20% off sale, for trading in an old AVR. Crutchfield honored it, but didn't require sending your old one in. Maybe they have another similar sale sometime.

Supercharged Song Towers, Oppo BDP-203, Anthem MRX-520, LG B6 OLED
Headphone Rig: Oppo BDP-95, Burson Audio Soloist MKII Headphone amp/ Sennheiser HD800S, Sennheiser HD650

I believe HDMI 2.1 pass through will be the next reason to upgrade, and that could come next year.

Audio: Anthem mrx720 running 7.1.4, McIntosh MC-303, MC-152, B&W 802d3 LR, B&W HTM1D3 center, B&W 805d3 surround, B&W 702S2 rear, B&W 706s2 x 4 shelf mounted for atmos, Infinite Baffle Subs 4x15 fi audio running on behringer ep4000 + 2x12 fi audio mounted in main chair firing into back.

I just upgraded to a 4 k projector and new cinemascope screen last year. 8k capability is many years out for me. Thanks for the opinions. Looks like I may go for the purchase - getting a damn good deal on one.

They're just had the 20% off trade up deal on Paradigm Speakers. Funny they ended it as soon as Black Friday arrived.
Maybe they'll offer it on Anthem now.

Yea, I also don't plan to upgrade to anything HDMI 2.1 but it's not just 8k. It's also variable refresh rate and perhaps some other stuff. I don't think 8K is even worth while as you can barely see 4K differences on a large theater screen, I don't think 8K is going to be necessary or even noticeable unless you're like 6 feet from a 135" or closer. To see 8K on a regular 65" TV, you'd have to be about 3 feet away.

I also think that'll be the next step for them but are they early adopters generally? There is always the chance they'll wait it out and see if any of the components needed for 2.1 come out with revisions (or errata), wait for additional design guidance to become available, or something like that.

Why are you people obsessed with talking about 8k? Quick media switching, quick frame transport and VRR are WAY more important today (or "as soon as it comes out," anyway). Sure you mentioned VRR but missed the other stuff (I didn't list all of the features either) to focus on 8k which is not giving it proper credit for what it can improve. 8k is currently the least relevant improvement that HDMI 2.1 delivers (though I bet 8k sets will start coming out in 2020... maaaybe 2021 - do you guys upgrade receivers very often?)

No obsession on 8k at all. As I get older my eyes require glasses and the prescription is getting stronger- I'm lucky I can see the screen (as my wife would put it) I've done two receiver upgrades in the past two years. The marantz on my dive to separates and the Anthem yesterday. Prior to that only a few starter receivers that I can think of.

I'll be curious about the Prestige V2, though I now have no local dealer for Paradigm or Anthem. Have to figure out where the next nearest one is to get me a look / listen... But that's good news.

Then I'm out. Don't care for the look of the Sigs. as much as the Prestige. The Be tweeter could be nice, custom colors are great, so long as there is piano black. Sounds like these will not be for me. Oh well. Easier on the wallet....

Anthem is offering a 20% discount for an old AVR trade. The MRX 1120 is getting long in the tooth -- if past action is any predictor we should be within 12 months of a new model. Personally, I'm waiting to see what the new model brings even though the 20% is nice.

My experience is that all features being the same, in this digital age it makes sense to replace key equipment every so many years. Specs only tell part of the story -- nothing tests performance like hooking it up and running it. So I'll pass on the 20% to get the new new.

I’ve been wondering about this subject myself. My current AVR is a Denon X3000 and it doesn’t pass HDR or do Atmos. All those features were included in the next model year AVRs and I now find myself needing HDR pass through and just want Atmos. The current 720 would totally work for me but I may just have to wait and see what comes outs on the new model and decide then. Any features the potential 730 could have may not be worth the extra cost over a close out 720, if dealers can even offer close out sales on older Anthem receivers.
I saw Audio Advice offering the trade up deal and with the recent release of ARC Genesis, it got me wondering if an upgrade was in the works. I wonder if Anthem will be at InfoComm 2019 with some products.

For what material though? It feels like we're 4-5 years away from HDMI 2.1 even mattering.

My next AVR will be Anthem, but I am stuck on what will trigger the upgrade. I have a Denon 4301 in 7.1 config with the rear surrounds mounted well above the horizontal plane -- the sound field is immersive and satisfying. Try as I have, I haven't heard an ATMOS rig that moves me enough to want to make the jump. So time will tell. . .

My guess is late next year. With a possible summer announcement and availability in 4Q.
However, they always run their trade-up program in June, so maybe something by then.

Does anybody know if the current MRX series has the ability to individually set a specific audio delay to each HDMI input?

Yes you can set it by input so that each input can have a different audio delay value from 0 - 300ms. Then when you are on that input you can adjust it on the fly if you like with the remote.

Even more detailed, since all inputs on anthem are virtual inputs, you can have different inputs for a specific HDMI line all with different audio delay values. I use this now. I have PC Video that has a 180ms delay (my projector runs with motion interpolation and at 24hz for video). Then a second one for "PC Game" which has zero delay.
