NAD T 789 all new AV surround amplifier

Quite surprised nobody picked this unannounced nad surround amplifier. It’s a 9.1 channel amplifier. Will be released this year for around €4000 euro. The front is one big display. I took a picture of the back, upper device. Supposedly this should be a important release because it will be a new platform.

NAD had it on display at the ISE2019 in my hometown Amsterdam

Yeah, I was on the NAD site yesterday and there was nothing about this.

So not an AVR then?

No, it's the upper unit. If you look closely you can read the type T789.

Found this on HiFi.nl:

"We spot some new AV receivers between all that surround violence. The NAD T 789 for example, a brand new device that was installed on ISE in a rack but also as a separate device is available. That will take some time, because actually the real launch of this 9.1 receiver is planned for later in the spring. For NAD it is an important device, because it is built on a totally new hardware platform. Dirac and BluOS are of course also back, including the new possibility to use BluOS in a second zone."

You can find it somewhere on the last pages of the t758 thread. It has a large screen on the front. Perhaps similar to the m17 screen.

Looks awesome, one can only hope that it will be a multicolour LCD screen instead of the generic blue text only ones

I Asked if the display was the same display as the NAD M10. But that was a negative... if its next gen. it better be multicolour.

Still makes you wonder why they put in on display without any news or turning it on? Just for the rumors?

Haha I have exactly the same feeling. I was planning for quite a while now to audition and buy a T758 or T777, but with mixed feelings. Basically these machines are 2012 tech. Even if the T777v3 audio quality is still awesome with Dirac and all, I'd really like a much more modern device with a touch screen, an OSD overlay, and simply a more 2019'ish looking front. On the other hand, now that I know this T789 is coming, I'm also not gonna buy a receiver from another brand until this thing hits the market. That is, if it isn't going to take too long.

This also seems to be positioned a bit higher than the current T777v3, with more amplifiers (5.1.4 won't need additional external amps), with probably more power per channel (since it's a T78x series instead of T77x), and hopefully a bit more modern features like dual (separated) sub outs, dual HDMI 2.x (instead of that ancient secondary 1.4 out), zone 2 BluOS et cetera. I'm excited!
nakkiran and mausse like this.

NAD C390DD. KEF Reference 1. SVS SB13 Ultra. Logitech Squeezebox Touch. Cambridge CXUHD. LG OLED 55C8.

It looks to be using the exact same video card as the T777, so no OSD overlay.

If it is an amplifier only, why does it have HDMI inputs and outputs? If it does HDMI switching and also decoding of digital audio, then it does what the other NAD AVRs do.

LG OLED65B6P TV, Marantz SR7012 AV receiver, Sony UBP-X700 Player, Klipsch F-30 speaker system

Those are photos of a developmental version and subject to change in something that's probably at least 6 months from official release. Don't bet on anything at this point. I was pretty shocked at what NAD put into the Masters M10, and it's proving to be everything I'd hoped...except native DSD play. I don't really need that, just that I thought if they're using an ESS Sabre DAC and put it in the specs it might be true. Turns out no, but that's my only issue.

I would hope and assume NAD would put the most effort and features into the new flagship AVR.

Their cards with HDMI 2.0b were recently released, so they're not going to develop a new card with 2.0b as well. The next version will undoubtedly have HDMI 2.1, and the mainstream players won't have that for at least another year. NAD probably won't have it for a year or 2 after that.

So there's an extremely good chance the 789 will have the same card.

This!

The Sales rep said it’s an all new platform so I think it’s to early to jump to conclusions with the “old” hdmi card. Other option for my personal is the cheap t758v3 with a NAD M10 combo. Choices....

Shame they couldn't fit another 2 amps in there for a full 7.1.4 single box solution with Dirac Live.

It's no major difference in having 2 vs 4 channels of external amplification at which stage it isn't much of an upgrade from a 777v3.

I'm curious if it can use the internal amps to support 5.1.4 although the labels in the speaker posts don't seem to support that.

Tower Cinema - 9.1.6 in a 12'x12' room
Input : Nvidia Shield TV, Panasonic DMP-UB400
Magic : Marantz SR7010, Marantz SR6010, 2x NAD T743
Output : Panasonic TX65EZ952B, SVS PB13 Ultra, Monitor Audio GSLCR 2xGS20 2xGS10 4xGSFX 6xBX1

Don't get too concerned about the shortcomings of a receiver that doesn't exist yet.

I'm not, I have no personal interest in anything below 15ch processing at this stage. If I did I would upgrade my old T775 to full Atmos/4K/Dirac Live support. I just wish NAD would start pushing the envelope a little, especially considering the price tag they attach.

NAD just appointed a new local distributor, and I asked him about the T789:

Quote:
Thank you for your enquiry. The ETA has been postponed. This is meant to be a 'statement' product. NAD is waiting for the latest tech to be finalised.

However, there will a new upper market AV offering arriving before the end of the year, details to be confirmed

TV: LG OLED 55C7
Player: Oppo UDP-203
AVR: Cambridge Audio CXR200
Speakers: PSB Imagine T2 towers (bi-amped), PSB Image C5 centre, Monitor Audio Bronze FX surrounds (bipole), Velodyne Impact 10 sub
