Bought the RZ740 on a black friday deal I could not resist, upgraded from an older onkyo TX-SR608 :P
I wanted the new features of music streaming, 4k HDR, and I will expand my 5.1 to a 5.1.4 very soon.
Previously i have prioritized 4k HDR over the HD surround formats, and had to settle for the compressed formats through ARC.
I'm a bit unsure whether I just want eARC or if I will need it in the future.. but I am still considering to return it.
I did comment on onkyos facebook page a couple weeks before about the eARC difference on 740/840 since they appear to have the same hdmi board, and asked if there
would be a firmware update to activate it on the 740 or if it was just done this way to keep the two models more separated.
I don't think they liked it, because yesterday I tried to write the onkyo email support with the same e-mail of my facebook account, and the automated error message response I got included this message:
<(my email adress removed)>:Sender address rejected: Access denied
I tried multiple times, same error... Then i tried another email, no issues...
I have not been in contact with onkyos email support before this, so im 99,9% sure the facebook comment did it.
This customer experience definetly suggests I should return it
but I want to like it, it sounds good, it has almost everything i need, except for eARC
Are there any other issues that is not resolved?
How long after release will Onkyo typically release firmware updates/fixes to their receiver products?
