Upgrade from Marantz AV8003

Any advice on a replacement preamp for Dolby Vision, 4K et cetera?

Thanks,

Dave

Depending on budget, here are some recent suggestions from others here in the forum, in no particular order. The cx-a5200 seems to get a lot of love for reliability, sound and features. I do not own any of these, fyi!

av7705/8805 if you like audyssey xt32
yamaha cx-a5200

Stepping up a bit in budget and room correction software...
Arcam

Lexicon
Anthem
NAD

monolith htp-1
Cambridge audio
Rotel - no room correction software,, iirc?

Haven't heard the Yam, but the SQ of the Sabre DAC truly is special IMO.

That said, my 7705 has been 100% stable and bug-free for what I do with it, which is 4K:60hz passthrough on Zone2 and 4k/1080P on main zone.
Atmos to XLR decode (and rear+height upmixing via Dolby/DTS upmixers for the older non-object formats of both, i.e. 2.1, 3.1, 5.1 and 7.1)
All via optical HDMI cables.
Bluray/Fiber TV/XBOX/HTPC HDMI-switching.

That's about it...

I don't use any of it's EQ/DSP features nor for 2-ch audio.
Beds and heights are ALL set as large's and 0ms delay in my system since my 2-ch DAC and DSP/XO rig is external/actives: Motu/Sabre (all XLR as well.)

Yes....what he said ^^^. I think I have seen video of @BassThatHz kitchen floor shaking from the bass in his home theater. If that is the same guy, you will need an advanced mathematics degree just to decipher his home theater wiring and dsp. Dude is about as legit as it comes in this forum so if he says the 7705 is good, then it is.

It's definitely rocket-surgery and brain-science.
That upload was in like 2009. My 2019 system is 20x beefier.
My main house and HT are two separate buildings now, 75ft apart, (for that very reason.)
It is also possible you are confusing Luke's kitchen with mine, his gets melted by bass, as it is directly attached underneath.

IMO the Sabre has better SQ than whatever the Marantz uses, but it's like 95% vs 99%, most people couldn't hear a difference. [and as I age, my abilities to detect such differences aren't improving neither. ]

Ha Ha! Yea could be? It was crazy, there were a bunch of dudes drinking beer talking speakers, cars and chicks...I mean wives. :-) The beer on the table was moving and then the camera pans down and the floor is flexing, it looked animated a little like Matrix. Pretty kool minus the sheetrock screws falling out and the roof rafters coming loose LOL!
