Denon AVRX4400H vs Denon AVR-X4500H

I see the Denon AVRX4400H and the Denon AVR-X4400H besides aesthetics i cant see any differences. Do you really pay $800 more just for the newer aesthetics?

LOL love the responses.

A member here once mentioned that the x4500h sounded better than the x4400 in his theater. So if you can't get the x4400 for $300 less, then go with the newer x4500h.

Good luck!

Denon AVRX4400H

and one was
Denon AVRX4500H

I feel like a bit of an idiot but it was a honest mistake.

That is a big difference. I would go for the 4400.

For differences, see: https://www.avsforum.com/forum/90-re...l#post56087556

It may be possible to get a 4500 at less than the common online (e. g., Amazon) price, especially if you have access to a Fry's Electronics. If not, the 4400 is the obvious choice, assuming that you can live without eARC or IMAX enhanced DTS:X.

The 2017 X3400H/X4400H/X6400H all received a firmware update to support eARC in October 2018.

Only the 2018 X4500H/X6500H and "flagship" X8500H support IMAX enhanced DTS:X.

Darn. I knew that.

Maybe the post I referenced should be updated to reflect that.

What specifically needs to be updated? The post you linked to has correctly reflected what I said in my previous post.

Yes. No, as it is on board from factory.

The features of the X4400H are discussed in post 1 ---> https://www.avsforum.com/forum/90-re...sts-1-8-a.html

My apologies. I misinterpreted the post on the 4500. Its eARC function isn't a feature upgrade over the 4400; it's "new" because it is added on by a firmware update.

If you can look at the post as through the eyes of someone much less knowledgeable than yourself (me), you may be able to see why it is a little confusing.

I fail to see how stating a feature will be added to both models via firmware update can be interpreted any way other than the fact that the feature will be available on both models.

In the 2018 post, it registered with me as if eARC was a change from the 2017 model, rather than an update to the 4500, completely unrelated to the 4400. If I had studied the 2017 thread more carefully, it would have been clear.

It could be possible to more clearly separate the model year differences from the updates for a given model year.

It may not be worth the re-write. Possibly no one else will ever misinterpret it that way.

If my remarks came across as a significant criticism, I apologize. They were intended more as minor whining.

Off subject but if i want my BD player to do the upscaling DVD's and Blu-rays. Do i go to Video/Output settings on the 4400 and turn Video Conversion to "off"? Or am i wrong about this and need to change something else?

Nope. As the source is HDMI you need do nothing as the factory default for "i/p Scaler" is "Analog".

Video Conversion - converts analog signal to HDMI

i/p Scaler - upscales video from lower resolution to higher resolution

Please ask further specific questions regarding the X4400H operations in the 2017 AVR Owners thread as I already linked you to in post 13.
