Official Dolby Atmos Music Thread

Since Universal is moving into Atmos audio recordings I thought it might deserve it's own thread. There are very limited releases at this point, INXS Kick 30th Anniversary edition and very little more at this point. However Capitol is part of the Universal group and they started recording music in Atmos, so it is coming --slowly. Kick 30th is available on Amazon for $38, a bit pricey at this point.

At this point the only Atmos streaming music is in China, for whatever reason, but it will eventually arrive here.

Here is a link to an interesting article posted the other day:

Will be interested to see how this goes. Other surround music formats have all failed - Quadrophonic, 5.1 / 7.1 (DTS even had their own record label for awhile, trying to push 5.1), Pure Audio Blu Ray, Auro-3D...

OTOH Atmos is rapidly becoming a de facto standard for film/tv production and is becoming a standard for distribution (theatrically, streaming, physical media), so maybe there will be some convergence and momentum this time around.

I was just a kid when quad was starting, bought into it. Had CD-4, QS ,SQ recordings, still do somewhere. Had my TV wired into the receiver way before it became a thing.

I've had my ceiling Atmos speakers in for a few weeks and can honestly say I'm more than impressed, even without true Atmos content. Can't wait for music recored in Atmos.

Might be a good idea to make this a "sticky" thread at some point...

A few posts a week isn't enough activity to make a thread a sticky and this should be in "Surround Music Formats."

Kraftwerk 3D : The Catalogue is out there with a nice Atmos mix. This is a blu-ray concert title, not audio-only, and comes in two versions. There is a 'highlights' disc with select songs from their eight albums, which I have. There is also a hugely expensive box set with 8 complete albums and a book.

There's also two related threads on the Surround Music Format sub-forum already.

I have this and don't rate it. Atmos effects are minimal and the music is crap IMO
