Help Picking a New AVR

I want to do a 5.1.4 Dolby Atmos setup and need recommendations for a receiver. I am going to use SVS bookshelf, satellites, center and elevation speakers along with their PB-2000 sub. My budget is $500-700 for the AVR, I have been looking at the Onkyo TX-RZ830 but not sure if this would work and wanted to hear some input from others if this would be a good unit or any other receivers that would be a better match for my setup in my budget range. I would appreciate any feedback the knowledgeable people here at AVSforums could give me. Thank you in advance for any responses.

@OldPannyMan the rz830 is great for movies, others are 50/50 about it musically, if you care? However for the price, it is hard to beat. It can expand to 7.1.4, has full preouts and got the earc update. The rz830 cousin is the Pioneer lx503 is almost identical but has video upscaling and mcacc basic room correction, instead of accueq advance.

The denon x4400/4500 have a far superior room correction solution (xt32) than those above but they are at the very top of your budget, refurbished. The cousin marantz sr6012/6013 are similar and have xt32 as well.

If you do not need pre-outs then the Onkyo rz630, Onkyo tx-nr787 and cousin Pioneer vsx-lx303 are at the bottom of your budget, all 5.1.4 capable.

Yamaha doesnt really have a 9 channel solution under about $800, unless you look at refurbished? The rx-v2085 was on sale similar to the x4500h, so keep an eye on that one if you love the Yamaha sound.

Good luck!

eriksells916, thank you so much for the info, I'm researching all three units you mention to see what will work best. 2 follow up questions.
1) Do you know if all these are reliable or is one manufacturer known for superior reliability over all the others? If so I'd rather spend a little more to go that way.
2) I saw info on a new Onkyo TX-NR797 which looks really interesting, would you think this world be a good match?

eriksells916, thanks again for all the info. I researched all of the units you mentioned and decided I really wanted the Denon x4400. I was about to get it refurbed at accessories4less and ended up getting it brand new with the 3yr warranty for $50 more than the refurbed price at another vendor and jumped all over that deal. So again thanks.

@OldPannyMan awesome deal you got! That is a good receiver with great correction abilities and plenty of power. Now its time to build/buy a second sub, if you do not already have one.

Keep us posted on how it sounds!

I definitely will, although I am rethinking my SVS system and I'm now thinking going with an RSL setup instead. Heading to the speaker forum now to get some input. Thanks for all your help.

Good deal. I got a 4400 a couple of weeks ago and LOVE it. Think you will too. Running it with an 11.4 system. Sounds amazing.
