Pioneer VSX-832 vs Denon S730H

I recently picked up a refurb VSX-832 to replace my broken Yamaha RX-V471. Now I'm wondering if it's worth spending another $30 or so and getting the Denon S730H instead.

While the VSX-832 sounds fine with movies, it sounds somewhat lifeless and dull with music, at least compared to my old Yamaha.

I have a 3.1 setup in a fairly small living room, so I don't require loads of power, but I do need a receiver that can drive 4 Ohm front L/R speakers. No need for 4K support and any of the newer formats/standards. Not sure if the basic Audyssey on S730H is any better than basic MCACC on VSX-832. The MCACC seems to think my small front speakers with 4" drivers are "Large," so that's not exactly confidence inspiring.

Thanks!

I actually happen to own both those AVR's, just different model year. The Denon is a lot more user friendly in that it's much easier to navigate and understand what the menu options actually do. The Denon has better room correction between the two. The Pioneer does sound a little less lively which I actually like for music. Get a Denon and don't look back. Watch for close-out deals on previous year Denon models currently going on.

Kef LS50,Q200C, Q100, SVS SB-2000, Denon AVR-X3400H, NAD 216, Panasonic 50" Plasma, Xbox One.
Bedroom: JBL Loft 50 , Loft 20, Bic F-12, Denon AVR-S710W, PS3, 32" Insigna LED.

Thanks. Yeah, the 730 is on clearance for $200, which is why I started looking at it.

The Denon will be a better purchase around here. At least that one is a 7 channel receiver which gives you more options down the road such as 7.1 or Atmos/DTS:X 5.1.2 whereas the Pioneer is only a 5 channel receiver and you don't have as much freedom on that one. Plus the Denon's Audyssey is also better than Pioneer's MCACC

My current mancave room setup:
Vizio V436-G1 4K HDR TV | LG UBK90 4K Blu-ray player | Denon AVR-S740H AV Receiver (running 7.1 surround) | Xbox One X | Amazon Fire Stick 4K | Roku Ultra

Thanks, everyone.

Throwing another contender into the mix: would Onkyo NR676 be an improvement over Pioneer VSX-832 and Denon S730/740H from a sound quality perspective or from any other perspective?
