I really like what Audyssey XT32 does for movies, but it's not great for listening to music. So, I'm trying to think about a way to integrate a MiniDSP to my 5.1 system to be able to use Dirac Live on enjoy 2.1 music and Audyssey for movies, easily switching from each other.
I tried to draw the two possible schemes that I could think of:
If it works as intended, I could easily use the toslink switch to engage Movie or Music mode in my living room.
When I want to listen to music, I could simply switch to Out 2 and select Multi Ch In on my AVR; then the AVR would (at option 1)
act as a power amp for my L and R speakers, amping the processed signal from the MiniDSP, and bypass the also processed sub signal (lowpass) to the subwoofer, or, (at option 2)
, the same thing, but the sub would be fed directly by the MiniDSP when listening to music.
When watching movies, at both options I would switch the splitter to Out 1 and let the AVR do the Audyssey processing!
What do you guys think? Would either of these schemes work? Is option 2 better than 1?
MultEQ editor app is not an option right now, because my AVR doesnt support it (onkyo 5008) and the upgrade cost would be the same as purchasing a miniDSP and I would probably lose amplification quality (this onkyo is a monster). Also can't afford multichannel Dirac
Thank you and sorry for my English!
