How is it? And does anyone yet have the SCLX904? I'm curious as to how good these are as AVR amps, yet note that the 901 is still listed on the Pioneer website as the best AV receiver in Pioneer's history, alongside the 904. Are the 704/904 specifically designed to partner with the PD50AE universal disc player, yet otherwise inferior to the 901?

Can anyone check if the Amazon Music app in the receiver plays the new hi Rez and/or Dolby Atmos tracks?

Got my lx904 in this week. The first unit that came had a faulty center channel and the fan would run often and quite loud, got a new replacement shipped out right away. So far so good with the 2nd unit.

One interesting learning re Dolby Vision. I have an Apple 4k TV and have had the resolution working fine when the appletv was set to output 4k+Dolby Vision between the Apple and my LG 4K OLED.

With the Pioneer in between, the Apple 4k TV was no longer sending a video signal if toggled to the 4k Dolby Vision setting. (this happened on both units)

Instead we had to set it one setting lower to 4k HDR on the Apple TV and then turn on the content matching settings (to match frame rate and dynamic content).

That then renders the Apple TV interface on the TV via the 4k HDR signal, but then also for Dolby Vision content it detects and switches the format and the tv recognizes the dolby vision format/content signal being sent through when movies with dolby vision are actually playing.

So something odd happening in that intermediate handshake between the apple tv, receiver and LG tv at the original setting, but at least the workaround gets the intended 4k dolby vision signal through at the end. Here's info on the apple settings for reference - https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208288

Considering a 704. Does anybody know the capabilities of the HDMI outputs when HDCP is engaged?

My theater has a TV and a screen that drops down in front of the TV. Not trying to play HDCP protected content on both simultaneously. Would like to display on either without changing cables.

Hi all I would like to ask here for some help.

Currently I have a Pioneer SC-LX801 and I am experiencing Internet Radio playback issues with the Pioneer SC-LX801.
I have had a phone conversation with the Pioneer technical phone support.
The problem we are experiencing is the following, during the day we have the Receiver running TuneIn, after a couple of hours the sound get's distorted and eventually it's total silence.

As I am a ICT guy myself I thought it could be something like a memory issue or something, could be like the buffer is running full, or a memory leak in the application itself.

This problem is also happening when using a Bluetooth connection to a laptop or phone by the way, exactly the same behaviour.

We are already running the latest publicly available firmware. It would be nice to have a solution for this annoying problem.

Also disabling the Network Standy function didn't solve the problem. And it's not really desirable to have it turned off because I would like to be able to turn the receiver on via the Android APP. (This was a suggestion from the technical support)

I have made a audio recording of the issue, you can find that here: https://www.priyantha.nl/downloads/Voice_001.m4a

I have already sent the unit back to the shop, and they send it to the repair center, but they are still waiting for the parts. And now I have received a brand-new SC-LX801 from the shop but experiencing exactly the same issues.

I was wondering if someone with a SC-LX704 or SC-LX904 could test my case with their unit. So for example put TuneIn on during the morning on low volume and go to your work and check in the afternoon/evening if the stream is still playing.

I've got from the shop where I bought the SC-LX801 the offer for €299 I could buy the SC-LX704 when I exchange the new (and faulty) SC-LX801 for it.

Kind Regards,
Priyantha

Cogratulations !
Could you check if you could reproduce my issues I have with the SC-LX801 on your SC-LX704?
So just start a TuneIn stream and leave it on for let say 5 hours? Or for example just start it and go to work and check if there is still sound after you come home?
In my situation the TuneIn stream is still playing, which you can see because the text scrolling from the station is updated and is updating still but the sound is stopped.

Yes, let's hope the thread does get some more activity! I hope you enjoy your new SC-LX704. I have one on pre-order with a retailer here in the UK. They seem to be in scarce supply in the UK at the moment, no retailer has stock!

Currently the receiver is playing a TuneIn channel since I picked it up from the shop. For more than 7 hours and 20 minutes. And it is still running and sound working.
Hopefully it is still running after we wake up. Going to bed in a couple of minutes.
When everything is still working properly I will connect the rest of the equipment and speakers and run MCACC.

Everything works fine now.
Also the MCACC measurements where okay. And the sound is great.

Now is there another problem, the fan inside the receiver is engaging very often and very loudly which is strange because our previous SC-LX801 did not turn the fan on. And also my old SC-LX72(Elite SC-27) did not.

That should be some fault I suppose?

I've never heard any fan sounds from any of my SC Elite receivers. That seems like a warranty issue to me.

after a few days of use I am delighted with my pioneer, there are details in the soundtrack that I did not have with my onkyo,

The precision of the sound effects is incredible and I did not know that my focal dome could offer a sound like this

I watched Captain Marvel and at the beginning of the movie when Carol dreams and we see the explosion and the earth falling to the ground, there are lots of little details in the soundtrack around me that I don't hadn't noticed with my old receiver.

I am a neophyte, but I hear the difference for having had the 3 MCACC at home and the PRO version of the lx704 is impressive of efficiency (IMHO)

the depth of the device is greater (onkyo 378mm vs pioneer 440mm), so I left more space between my audio / video unit and the wall to be able to close the door and the hdmi cables are stuck on the wall, I don't like that but I have no choice.

no regrets for buying this pioneer

Hi. I want to buy SC-LX704 and have a question if 704 has MCACC Precision distance? On pioneer-audiovisual.eu it says yes, but it is not mentioned in the manual, while in the manual on 904 it is.

Thank you for your response. Please see Pioneer-audiovisual.de English manuals on SC-LX904 page 190, there is a section "Precision distance" and see English manual SC-LX704 page 190 and there is no section. I decide between 904 and 704, and your information will help me a lot. Well thank you.

Got a replacement SC-LX704 now, and everything works as advertised!
TuneIn works for more than a couple of hours, the FAN doesn't engage.
Everything works great now.

There was a annoying problem with the built-in Chromecast, that it got engaged everything when changing the volume through the remote control, but after a factory reset everything works fine now.

Great receiver, great sound, also the 1080p>4k upscaling works good, much better than letting Kodi do that stuff ;-)

On my yamaha receiver there was a setting called D. Range.
where I could set it to Low, Std or Max.

It adjusted the sound to full or min depending on your small room, or for at night, so oyu would not get so drastic of volume changes

Where is this on the 704 or 904

Amazon has the SC-LX904 on sale for a ridiculous price. I posted the price in the deals thread. I went to BB and they price matched. The difference was so big from what they are selling it for that three different people looked at the deal on Amazon.

I judge room correction on how my AVR or processor sounds. Regardless of whether it calibrates one sub or two, does one position or eight, etc. The SQ on my current LX801 is the best of any receiver I have owned in the last two years, which includes a Denon X4400H, Denon X6500 and Onkyo TX-RZ920. In my living room Audyssey always left my bass boomy. The Onkyo TX-RZ920 was a gem. I had some handshake issues that I thought were HDMI related, so I returned it, but when I had it I loved it.

I was super surprised at how well the Pioneer sounded when I installed it. Great balance, great bass, terrific dialogue (without using enhancer) and really good two channel as well. I am looking forward to receiving my LX904 to see if it improves on the LX801.

I will say however, that I truly believe each environment yields different results. I have a pretty friendly sound environment (Two story, Carpeting, open concept) except for some windows. What sounds good in my living room may sound differently in yours. The one thing I wish the Pioneers did differently though, is crossover settings. If you set the fronts to small it sets every other speaker to small. Wish I could set each speaker independently. Again though, it’s the final SQ I judge.

Yes . Just picked one up from amazon with the 3 year warranty.
Watched it drop from $2400 down to $1900
They had the Denon 6500 at $1600, but it is back up to $2200 now.
But Denon. Marantz, yamaha are all 2017 models

I'm definitely tempted by this end of the year price on the SC-LX904. Currently we have an Elite SC-97 that is a few years old. Sound and performance have been excellent, but I would like have the Elite sound with up to date 4K HDR HDMI pass through.
I've been hesitant to commit to a new AVR until some of the new AVRs and procesors, like the Monoprice HTP-1 (9.x.6) are released. It feels as if the Atmos protocols are changing and the HDR HDMI requirements too.
Another factor is that there are very few, if any, independent reviews on the SC-LX904.
Even here at AVS, there is very little feedback...

SC-LX904 pecs read:
"4K Ultra HD Pass-Through, Ultra HD Pass-through with HDCP 2.3 (4K/60p/4:4:4/24-bit, 4K/24p/4:4:4/36-bit, 4K/60p/4:2:0/36-bit)"

My understanding of the new HDR protocols is "challenged". Shouldn't the HDCP 2.3 capability cover everything current?

Can anyone point to a link or review that speaks to the "future proof" aspect of the current Elite AVRs?

Any help or perspective would be appreciated...
Thanks

I just ordered yesterday as well. My only concern is the reports of the center channel having volume issues since the firmware update. I'm definitely not going to let the update take place when I set up the receiver.
