Help me decide between yamaha and denon

hi,

first, which is better:
the yamaha tsr-7850 or the denon avr-x3300w?
my current setup is 5.2.2.

second, my budget to go higher is about $700. maybe i should look for a deal on a new receiver on black friday?

thanks

@hammersmith x3300 is much older but has full preouts and dual sub control with audyssey xt32. Someone who has black friday experience will have to chime in there!

In the US, you can get an AVR-X3500H for $600, brand new, from the usual large online sellers. It's on 2018 model year closeout, so I don't know how long it'll be available.

If you're doing 5.2.2, one nice feature of the 3500 is that it includes Audyssey XT32/SubEq room equalization, so that it can semi-independently equalize two subwoofers. It may be the least expensive AVR with two independent sub outputs. (There are many AVRs, including some more expensive ones, that have two sub outputs that carry the same signal. May as well use a Y adapter.)

it's just that a relative offered to give my one or the other.
i didn't know which one to take or if they're both outdated to buy one on black friday.

I own the x3300 and it is not outdated. What it doesn't have is a phono input if you have a turntable. Not a problem for me, I use my turntable with an older Denon receiver in my home office.

Either this or the Yamaha would be a good choice.

i didn't think the denon x3300 was all that outdated.

@hammersmith you never said that you were going to be given one of these avr's. That changes things.

If you are spending hard earned money, then get something newer, otherwise as Afrogt said, both are nice and would be a nice early xmas gift. The Denon will control dual subs better if you have them and Yamaha is known for reliability.

Good luck!

ya, i feel a bit guilty taking one that's why i thought if $700 would get me something appreciably better then i'd go for that.

It's a 2016 model. It has, however, received the Dolby Vision and HLG passthrough updates, so it's not lacking much over the 3400 (2017) and 3500 (2018). The "w" suffix means that it doesn't support HEOS. The AVR-X3600H (2019)is very different, though: it processes 11 channels but has 9 onboard amps (can do 7.2.4 Atmos with an external stereo amp). More like a 4500. You might have trouble getting one for $700, if you were looking to buy.

A 3300 or a Yamaha 7850 is a great gift.
