Yamaha RX-A2060 vs RX-A3080

Hi all,
Am looking at a new 3080 or a second hand 2060 (This is what is currently around I will consider any AMP between those two specs). Trying to decide what matters and if I need to fork out for the latest and greatest. My dedicated HT room layout is shown in the thread I started here: https://www.avsforum.com/forum/90-re...atmos-amp.html

Things have changed since that post (although I still havent bought an AMP!) so I have some questions about the differences between the latest and older models. I have been comparing specs via this site https://www.zkelectronics.com/compar...080/australia/

Q1. In practice is the improved DAC noticeable. I was thinking of ripping my CDs into a lossless format instead of the MP3 I currently have.

Q2. The 3080 has dropped support for Dolby Pro Logic and Dolby Digital EX. Are there any issues with that or does a different Dolby technology merely replace it?

Q3. Is the HD3 version of Cinema DSP (vs 3D) and Surround AI worth anything?

Q4. I know Yamaha's YPAO isn't great but the 3080 adds the words "64-Bit High Precision EQ Calculation". Is that much of an improvement?

Besides the power rating and the 11.2 channels is there anything else that I should be considering when deciding on the next AMP. My main goal is to get the best sound field I can without paying for stuff I don't need. Mainly used for movie viewing via streaming in HD or BluRay (also Laserdisc which has AC-3 output) but also music when the mood takes me! I've always had Yamaha and I'm very happy so will be sticking with them. I might also go for a RX-A3050 as with my projector I don't think I need any of the later video improvements?

Speakers:
Focal 716V Mains
Focal CC700V Centre
Focal 605 Front Presence
B&W DS3 as Surround L&R
Focal 605 Surround Back L&R
A Yamaha YST-SW800 Sub

@Krumlov did you add ceiling speakers for atmos? Maybe spend less on an avr and get a better sub or 2?

i recently bought a refurb 3070 and love it. it replaced a pioneer vsx-tx503 and blows it out of the water(yes i get not exactly a fair fight, but refurb vs new around the same money when i bought). Lesson again learned buy once cry once.

@BenConner did you mean vsx-lx503? The 503 has excellent power, but the 3070 is that much better huh? Did you not like the global crossover on the Pio?

Yes speakers for ATMOS are about to go in. Re: the AVR I hope to get the answers to my questions above and that will allow me to make the decision and yes if it looks like an older AMP is what I need then will definitely look to use the excess funds elsewhere.

I didn’t care for the global crossover but I think it’s more of a I want control versus I need it thing. The Yamaha just sounds better to me. The pioneer wasn’t hurting for power but the Yamaha is another league as it should be it is a flagship. It really should be fighting it out with the 801 or 901
