cheap preamp for sonos

I have a couple Rotel 5 Channel amps I want to use with my Sonos connects. My goal is to essentially find an affordable volume knob to put between the sonos connects and my amplifiers. The goal would be to have one for each of the five zones. I'm having trouble finding something affordable. There is a chance I'm looking in the wrong place or it may not exist. Thanks for the help

Why not just put each of the Sonos Connects volume to variable and control the volume of each with the Sonos app?

I don't like the idea of my speakers only protection coming from the Sonos box. Especially when I may have friends come over and connect to my system and their volume is jacked up

You can set a volume limit on the Connect.

But here is an inexpensive preamp that also includes a DAC.

Not sure if this meets your cost criteria though.

I didnt know about the volume limit. I believe you have solved my problem. This sets a volume limit for the unit correct? if someone else connects to it the limit remains in place?

I believe so, but suggest testing to verify.
