Time to upgrade receiver

Ok, I have an old RCA 5.1 receiver I bought in 2002. I have upgraded to a 4k qled tv and have pioneer elite speaker setup for 11.2.4 now I need to power it. These are 4 ohm speakers. I obviously need atmos and dts, I do stream hd music from Amazon currently to the tv then optic line out to my receiver. The only internet I have is from my phones hot spot, so connectivity is not my major concern. I have an xbox1x I play offline. Not going to 8k not worried about it at all. I have $1I roughly I can throw at it. Can someone help me out with a recommendation?

Hey Mike, I'm assuming you meant 1k?

As does mine! It'll be a bit more difficult to find one in your range with 11 channels. Have you considered used/refurbished?

Refurbished should be fine. I've been looking at things like pioneer 503 and 701, denon AVR-X4500H or 3600. My current setup is as advanced technologically as it will be for the next decade or so. Future proofing isnt a huge issue for me.

If you had to have all 11 channels, here's an option to consider (from a reputable source--I've bought a few AVR's from them):

Ok, my dad has the 3600, I believe, but that and the 4500 doesn't have 11 channels unless you get additional power.

Right on, I'd have to wait until payday to pull the trigger on that one. Definitely worthy of consideration. Thank you.

Could I used my old receiver as the amp for the other 2 channels?

I also looked at older models pioneer sc89 might do everything I need and is 600 refurb. Not sure it has dhcp 2.2, though I'm not sure how big an issue it actually is. Class d amps running cooler has a certain appeal. It may last longer than something that runs hot.

Without HDCP 2.2 you wont get 4k from blu-ray and streaming services like netflix.

You know, I don't think it is feasible to do that with that model. Just quickly looking at some pics of the back of it, I don't see any inputs designed to use the amps like that. Is your TV a smart TV?

Never mind on the last question. I somehow bypassed that you're using an Xbox 1X.

Mike these are some of the newer 9 channel models (around $1k) that can expand to 11 with small amp like this https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Source-...1709130&sr=8-1

Pioneer lx503/504
Onkyo rz73/740/830/840

Denon x3600/4400/4500 (refurbed)

NAD 758 v3

I imagine that any receiver could be used as a 2 channel (stereo) amp. That'd be all you'd need with a Denon AVR-X3600H or a Pioneer VSX-LX504. Multichannel analog inputs would be rarer, but you don't need that.

That said, I'd prefer to spend a bit more on a small dedicated amp that includes a 12V trigger. The Audiosource AMP100VS is a common choice. There are others, like this one: https://www.amazon.com/OSD-Audio-XMP...1715913&sr=8-1

The least expensive (new) AVR that I know of that processes 11 channels (but has 9 onboard amps) is the Onkyo TX-RZ730. The low price is all that I know about it. (Seems to be a 2018 model.)

It can use the entire budget, I was looking at a pioneer 701 or 503, the 701 has d class amps. I know onkyo owns pioneer now, has there been a decline in quality? Denon is good stuff, so if pioneer doesn't stand up I think it would be the way to go. Theres 3600 for $750 or 4500 for 900, from here which of these would recommend? Thanks for the link to the amp, I might spend some cash and put it on my front speakers for listening to music. Seperate preamp and amp isnt out of the question either. I might get the best quality for my dollar that way.

I would imagine it would take a few more dollars if I went pre and amp but might be worth it in the long run.
