New processor or avr for livingroom

I have a Denon avr-x3400h. I got it used on eBay. About the time I got it setup it got hit by lifhtning. Now I need a new one.

I'm debating between a Denon avr-x3600h or the marantz av7705.

I will be using external amps, so don't need built in amps.

My living room has Klipsch pro 180 lcr in ceiling speakers. So not an all out perfect setup. The Denon is half the price...

What is everyone's thoughts?

Need a lot more info. How many of those ceiling speakers are installed? How high are the ceilings? How big is the room? What is your usage scenario? Are you expanding the number of speakers in the future? Do you have another primary media room?

Thanks! I have 5 speakers in the ceiling and a subwoofer. The ceilings are 9' high. Just want 5.1 surround sound. Probably not expanding. For now this needs to be primary, but down the road I will build a dedicated room in the basement... The current room is about 16x19 but is open concept.

The AV7705 is more akin to the X4500H feature wise so depends on whether the X3600H is missing any features you want that are provided on the AV7705 (see post 1 of the AV7705 Owner's thread).

Also, you may want to consider the new 2020 X3700H (see post 1 of the 2020 Denon AVR Owner's thread) which features a "Pre-Amp" mode previously only found on the "flagship" Denon models the past 10 years.

Does anyone know when the avr-x3700h ships? It seems nobody has them in stock.

Availability of all of the new 2020 models is listed in post 1 of the 2020 Denon AVR Owner's thread.

Thanks! So late June, early July... Is it worth the wait or what are the thoughts on the marantz? I can get a deal on a refurb marantz which wouldn't make it much more than the 3700h...

I think the 3400h h I have now has a pre amp rated output of 1.2V and the marantz can do balanced outputs at 2.4 volts. Makes me think it would pair with my pro-audio amp better?

If you want to use XLR cables, then yes, the Marantz is the only option. And if you don't need any of the newer features on the 2020 models, the AV7705 would be a good choice for you.

I'm not tied to the xlr outs, but thought the higher output voltage would match the pro levels more? The whole +4 dbu for pro and -10dbu for consumer.

I dunno man... Those speakers are really efficient. I see the 3400 still on eBay... I'd pick that up and use saved cash on dual subs for that big open space.

OH, I found a 3400 on ebay. I just ordered it. from the sound of it, I wouldn't get much bonus from upgrading to the marantz. I mean I don't have an ideal setup...

my Sub is an old infinity 10" sub for the living room from the early 2000s that I had laying around. I think its an IL100s or something like that. and that is pushing the limit of what is "allowed" for me to have. My wife wants everything hidden which is why I had to go with in ceiling speakers. I actually may end up needing to find a different solution for the sub since "its to big" LOL not sure what options I would have to hide a sub. I think SVS or something like that makes a behind the chair style one...
