Monoprice is exploring a tried-and-true sales strategy: "affordable luxury." Which should appeal, for example, to those who have discerned that a Camry is a Lexus sans leather.

I guess I don't see the big deal. They aren't charging Monster prices. The cables look much better than their standard stuff. If they are built a little better, can withstand a bit more use, let them charge OMG $16!!!! for a cable. Who cares. If they enter the realm of morons buying 4 foot speaker wire for $4000, then lets talk.

But they're not promoting them on the basis of durability or aesthetics, they're promoting them on the basis of provably false claims. They say their design will improve the sound. It won't.

If that's true then I highly recommend people buy the $1 HDMI cord at the Dollar Tree store because I did and I can personally vouch for the fact that on my 120" projector screen its performance is superb.

The cheap HDMI cables have those stupid, gigantic ferrite cores on the ends that just make routing and cable management more of a pain. The fact that virtually no other brand of HDMI cable, not even Monoprice's other product lines, has them should clue you in to their necessity.

I have never in my life seen a ferrite core actually successfully solve an actual A/V consumer EMI/RFI issue [although I don't deny it is theoretically possible] but I suspect the ferrite core manufacturers* have successfully lobbied some industries into making them fairly common if not even standard.

Sorry you feel that way but I haven't had any luck with their cheap HDMI cables.

I purchased a few Monoprice HDMI cables several years ago. They did have the big honkin' ferrite cores. Anyway, the construction appeared to be nice enough but one of them did separate (connector from cable) and had to be tossed. Could have been an anomaly. I don't think I abused the cable though, but it's been long enough that I don't remember any more specifics.

But this hdmi cable topic introduction has been a strangely out-of-the-blue, "I like turtles!" kind of diversion anyway. Not sure how we got here from the thread topic.
