Question Best Buy install of Atmos gone wrong? Maybe?

So I have bestbuy out in my house right now. They are installing a 5.1.4 atmos system and its not making much sense.

1) I got the Martin Logan ElectroStatic speakers. I understood that these have to be further from each other than the couch is from the wall. Is that correct? If so, they did not measure for the seating placement.

2) They placed the rear atmos channel directly above the seating position. I thought it was supposed to be just behind?

3) They are using front height positioned martin-logan in-wall speakers with the tweeters pointed up to the ceiling to handle the front atmos. (These already existed in the wall)

4) They say that these positional changes will be calibrated for using the Marantz SR7100 receiver.

Will this work? Or am I getting screwed here ?

Thanks all.

I dont run atmos but from what i have read this doesnt seem right.
You should check the atmos angles diagrams on the dolby site. An AVR will not really compensate for badly placed speakers.

That's unfortunately what I was thinking too.

Since they've already drilled the holes, I'm thinking maybe its better to do a 5.1.2 rather than a 5.1.4 with out of place speakers?

Any thoughts?

Hate to say it but I would never hire Best Buy to do an install.

The rear ATMOS should be behind the main listening position.

Hope you can get them to fix it.

Thank you PlanetAVS.

For 5.1.4: if i get them to move it behind the listening position....any concerns with the in walls for atmos front? I imagine yes...

Given both of those...what about just doing a 5.1.2? Is directly overhead OK? If so, maybe I just do a 5.1.2 and scrap the in walls. then they dont need to move the holes...

are you saying you didn't know how the speakers were going to be layed-out/installed before they did the installation?

i just don't see them coming in your place and putting speakers wherever they felt like it without telling you anything and having you agree with everything first.

also, did you have them out to look at your place first to get the quote and if so, didn't they give you a floor plan/overhead view of what was going to go where and how so you could sign off on it?

it just sounds kinda weird. i'm not taking sides either, just wondering.

Front height ATMOS speakers are a legit way to handle the fronts. I'm not sure if the tweeters are supposed to be aimed to the ceiling or not, that will take some research.

The rear in ceilings should be pointed down at a 45 degree angle to your listening position.

Sorry that they created a mess. You can live with it or get them to fix it.

Its all about the angles so if you check those you will find out, there probably is a bit of wiggle room also. Sending tweeter bounce up on the ceiling might not work very well.

Front height is ok for atmos but im not sure it can be combined with top rear or top middle, you have to check your AVR manual for that.
