Question What Happens to Height Channels When Playing Non-Atmos Content?

I think I will move my speakers around to make a proper Atmos setup with properly placed height channels. The question I have is what happens when I change my receiver to “height” instead of “surround back” ?

Once I make the rear channels height channels, what happens if I watch a movie or TV show that is not Atmos? Do the height channels become surround channels? Or are they silent?
