Newbie Subwoofer User - Sealed Rear Port?

I bought a Samsung HW R550 soundbar/subwoofer combination. The woofer came with a piece of thick plastic over the rear port.

The manual that came with the unit doesn't say anything about it in the set-up section but when I chatted with Samsung support they said that I can remove it. I'm just not confident that he knew what he was talking about, based on some other comments he made.

Here is what I am talking about:

is that supposed to be removed?

That looks like shipping/storage protection not a «plug» which are usually made from foam and go a ways inside to block the port to make it work more like a sealed sub.

Just looking for clarity here...

Are you implying that I can/should remove the plastic?

"looks like shipping protection" is what I thought, but I haven't heard anyone say, with 100% certainty, that it is. It appears to be held on with a thick bead of adhesive, similar to what they use to hold plastic sheeting on under door panels in cars. The plastic on the subwoofer is just as thick which makes me wonder if it really is just packing material.

Any further thoughts?

Take it off. It's just a shipping cover.
