Where to place surround speakers (5.1)

Hi All, I have 2 options to mount my surround speakers (5.1 setup). One is a the back wall, and another left and right of the coach (pretty much in the middle of the room).
Which option is better? (see attached images)

A. And don't be afraid to experiment with moving them slightly forward of the couch too, unless you simply can't do do. I've got mine at around 80 degrees, with either side aimed just forward of the opposite most listener. With monopoles, this delivers the overall best experience for the 3 positions on my couch.

Whatever position you end up with, be sure the speakers have line-of-sight to each seated head. For instance, putting the speaker at ear height at exactly 90 degrees would be problematic, as the head of one listener would block the speaker from the other listener on the couch. Position forward, backward, or use additional height to resolve this issue and go with whatever option sounds best.

It's a VIRTUAL channel unless stated otherwise.

As has already been mentioned, l/r speakers are better for 5.1, and the rear wall is better suited for the rear surround channels if you can angle them in a bit.
If it helps, here are the Dolby setup guides

I am for R/L of couch for the surrounds. Then experiment with height and maybe a little bit behind the head for starters. Are the fronts angled in to the central listening position and like? Good luck!
