I was wondering whether anybody had ever researched the sound dampening qualities of Elevator Pad materials. The building where I work had the cargo elevotor out of service so they added something that looked an awful like one of these.

Now I didn't have an spl meter but I'm guessing the ambient noise dropped by 20db an virtrually no echo from human speach. It was a very odd experience but I now have a greater appreciation as to the noticiable difference accoustic treatments can make.
