Yes it does work. You didn?t read the instructions. You don?t learn from the ATV remote. You teach the ATV unit itself any IR signals you want.

Yes from my understanding, you choose a device on your universal remote and teach/program its IR codes into the Apple TV. Just like I had to do with my old Zector components switcher.

Sony XBR-55A9F OLED
Samsung SMT-H3272 HDC DVR Cable Box / Panasonic DP-UB820 4K BD Player
Roku Premium+ 4k / AppleTV 4K 4th Gen
Denon AVR-X4500H AV Receiver / Klipsch 5.1.2 Speakers

I tried both. Having the MX450 learn the ATV remote and having the ATV learn the URC remote. The ATV would't allow the "down" function because it was already assigned. Not sure what it was assigned to because no other remotes are paired with the ATV. An installer programmed the remote so I admit that I'm not that familiar with the set up when there isn't a perfect code set pre-loaded. I even tried using a different device code set and program using the ATV learn function. Didn't work. Can I assign the Apple TV on the remote to a blank program and learn from there or do you have to program a specific device to make it work?

If it does work, then let me know what I'm doing wrong. I programmed the URC using the Apple 476 codes and used the ATV learn function. The Up button programmed fine, but the down button failed stating that it is already assigned to another device. It's a brand new ATV 4k so no remotes have been paired other than the siri remote. You can't move on from this step. I tried the same process with the Apple 412 codes and another device completely. To be clear the Apple 476 codes work fine except that the Play/Pause button doesn't work on Netflix or Amazon. It does work on Directv Now though.

Try adding a new device to your universal remote. Add a device that you don't have position of (that you don't own). Don't add an Apple device. Then program it's codes into the Apple TV.

Thanks. I tried that and it didn't work but I'll go through and try a few different devices until I find something that works.

Thanks all. Got it to work. Chose a Directv device and customized the buttons and screens to show what I want. It's unfortunate that you have to force a fix instead of having ready made codes to use given that it is an expensive remote.

Trouble restoring an MX-450

I have an older MX-450 that has been dropped alot and missing buttons so I bought a new MX-450 and am trying to copy the settings from one to the other but the archiver will not let me.
I get an error cannot be download old version data to new version device. Is there anyway around this instead of reprogramming the whole thing from scratch which is rather annoying.

Would anyone know how up-to-date the database is for these devices? The same as all other URCs?

I am hoping to program my own universal remote but don't have access to a PC.

Ed... I so value the resources and knowledge of AVSForum!
LG C8, Denon AVR-X4500H, Apple 4K TV, Sony UBP-X1000ES, 7.1.2 audio, (speakers = LCR-750 MKII for LCR with K-4 surrounds, V8 Movie sub, M&K K-7 rear surrounds, ELAC Debut 2.0 for FH)

The best answer I can give is "not very". However, you can LEARN any IR command and set-up your own device...then use the back-up/restore software to save the configuration so you never have to do it again (in case you lose/break/etc the URC).

Yamaha RX-A2050 AVR [v1.81], LG 65EF9500 4K OLED [v4.26.00]
5.0.2 set-up: (4) Polk Monitor 10B's, (2) Polk Monitor 4's, Polk CS300 center
B&O TX2 Turntable, Nakamichi Cassette Deck 1
Pioneer CLD-99 LD, Panasonic DMP-UB900 UHD [v1.80]

The back-up software is PC only, yes?

Yes. But it might work in Parallels or some other VM software for Mac.

Thumbs up Thanks

Greetings all,

New member posting a thank you. My MX-450 is going on three years old and I finally decided to sit down and figure out how to use the advanced features. Thanks to the folks here and on some other AV forums I have it doing everything that led me to buy it instead of one of the alternatives. It isn't perfect but for the money it comes pretty close. Thanks again and Happy Holidays!

Other than the fact you don't have the ability of programming it using PC software, the downside is the placement of the four button 'ring' around the navigation ring.
It's too easy to press the wrong button on that outer ring. If they would of made the eight functions (4 per ring) all narrow, separate buttons, spacing them apart it probably would solve the problem.

This and the software programmable MX900 (either the dedicated version or their universal CCC) are they best reasonable priced (used on e-bay) models.

Recording free OTA TV for 'time shifting' has been here since 1975. Will there be DVR's to do the same when ATSC3 obsoletes existing DVR's??

Clarify software usage or possibilities please, I’m quite confused. I’ve heard that you can program this with a pc and software, is that correct? Is the software only available through pro level contractor with access to ECC? Or is there a retail prosumer version of this? I would love to program with a pc and not all the pointing of remotes etc. please advise and thanks in advance.

You can NOT program this with a PC, you program it on the remote only. There is software that allows you to back up your programming, and update the remotes library of codes.

You should be able to xfer the backup you made from the bad remote to another MX450.
The 'backup' software was the only s/w that URC made available to end users (AFAIK) since it doesn't do any programming itself.

There was a change in the mx-450 hardware that that older remotes can't sync with newer Mx-450's, see further back in this thread.
