Cheers,

So now I am working on to see if I can get EG to leave a socket open and still send out a Broadcast to DemoPad. I am working on the feedback for my volume slider. I have it working but have to loop the macro in EG. Would love to be able to open the socket and leave it open so when the reviewer updates it automatically grabs it and sends it to EG. I can kinda do it but it wont send out the data until the socket closes. May be a limitation of EG

That seems odd. I would have assumed that the open socket and broadcasts were completely independent.

Suggest you ask for help on the EG forum. The main admin Kevin is very helpful.

I've just sorted out control of my C-Bus lighting using some python code in EG. Communication is done using a Global Cache iTach with serial to the C-Bus.

The code is almost identical to the earlier amp relay board -

Code:
import socket
s = socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_STREAM)
s.connect(('192.168.0.52', 4999)) # connect to iTach
try:
    s.sendall(b'...............') # insert C-Bus command
    f = s.recv(1024) # get feedback
except:
    pass # ignore all exceptions
finally:
    s.close() # disconnect from iTach

I should explain why I needed to do this.

My theatre is a black hole and when I leave it there's a button on my Demopad homescreen that is supposed to wait 10 secs for me to leave the room and then turn off the lights. The problem is that when I close the cover on the iPad Demopad stops executing commands. iRule used to keep executing. So it's now setup that Demopad sends a command to EG which waits 10 secs and then runs the python code.

Cheers,

So hears my code for my volume feedback that works great with my slider

import socket
sock = socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_STREAM)
HOST = '192.168.1.139'
PORT = 4999
sock.connect((HOST, PORT))
sock.settimeout(10)
sock.sendall("!1MVLQSTN"+"\r")
V = sock.recv(4096)[2:-1]
V = eval("eg.globals.%s" % V)
eg.plugins.BroadcastListener.Broadcast(u'Vol'+V+'' , u'', 33339)
sock.close()
del sock

WOW have you guys seen the price increase for the app. Now $149.00 I'm glad I got it when it was like $35.00 to $40.00 Not sure if a 3x price increase is a good sign or a bad sign for the company.

Need help

Hi,

I am quite new to programing and to DemoPad. So far I have been able to program my mini ipad to do most of what I need on my LG OLED TV, Anthem Receiver and Oppo-230. (Haven't tried any feedbacks yet). Commands go through GC 100-12.

I would now like to add my Roku Ultra Model #4660X2 . However, I have not been able to find the IR Codes to use for setting up the DemoPad Commands. I am not positive, but I believe there is an IR receiver in the front of the Ultra. Once I have a few commands, I will be able to search for it. ( I do have the remote for it if that helps).
So I am hoping someone here can point me in the right direction or better yet, send them to me.

The only activity I have found while reading this thread was way back at about post #273 on page 10 by mborner. ( He looks to have a very nice project and is light years ahead of me).

Thanks for your help,
Dave

Are you set on IR? Are you open to IP? I use IP can can help you with that. If not have you tried there IR database?

Try this, shout be menu select. You will have to change the port number if other then 1.

Thank you very much for your help.

In Designer, I created a command using "sendir,5:2,1" and your ir code. Then attached it to a button on my new ROKU page. Upon testing, the code did give me a blink on port 5 of the GC 100-12 and also at the LED end of the cable. However, I have been unable to get any response to the signal on my Roku. The picture on our TV remains unchanged. I have moved the emitter across the complete front of the box in small increments but no response. So I am not sure what to do next? The Roku Remote continues to work fine.

In answer to your question on IP, I am certainly open to trying it, although I know nothing about it at this time. I am sure anxious to learn, particularly when I see others using it on this thread. If it is a better way, I will try to learn more about it. Where do we begin?

Thanks again,
Dave

The ultra comes with an RF remote. I renumber now I tried a ROKU IR remote one time and it did not work. So you may need to got IP. IP is pretty easy. The ROKU and you iPad needs to be on the same network. In the builder add a generic IP device. Enter the IP of the ROKU, change port to 8060.

add this command for testing
POST /keypress/Select HTTP/1.1\x0D\x0A

that is the select command

I believe you have to go into the Roku Setting/System/Advanced system settings/Controlled by Mobile App/ Set to Permissive.

I believe that should be it.

Try it and let me know.

Before I try it:

I went to setting in ROKU and found the IP address to be 10.0.0.208. So I enter that as I create a new "Generic IP Device? Or, I think I read somewhere in the DemoPad website to make devices have Static Addresses. Do you want that instead?

I already have three Devices in this Project. One is labeled: "New Device 1". Under it are all the Commands that I have in the project so far. The second one is: "New Device 2". It doesn't seem to have anything in it. (Can I delete it)? And the third is: "New Centro-8 1" . It has some things in it. So now you want me to create a fourth Device with the ROKU IP address and port # - correct?

Then I will create a command on the "Pre-Defined Commands" sheet. Should I do that in Commands under New Device 1 or under Commands in the new fourth Device? Does it matter?

In the Pre-Defined command sheet, I will create a Command Name and type in your command string for testing. (the SELECt command). To try this command I will also add it to the button I have on the ROKU page as a command.

I will also go to ROKU Setting and make Permissine.

Not sure what your doing with your devices. You can label them how ever you want. If your not using a "New Centro-8 1" and "device two" is empty then you can delete them. You can use a static IP, I would recommend it but to test you don't have to worry about that for now. Worst case if you do not use a static IP and if your router would change up the IP's, then you will have to change the IP in the builder to match.

Just add the Generic IP device, rename it to what you want. Click on it in the left tree view to highlight it. Then click on "Pre-Defined Commands" to open. You can leave the "Name Prefix" blank" Enter the command name, and then paste what I posted above in the "Command Data" box. Then click the add green arrow. I pay for the pro and not sure if you will have this but do you see a green check mark on the right side labeled as "Test Command"? If you do yo can high light any command and click on the green check mark. This will send the command and if the roku responds every thing is working. After that you can add it to a button on a page to test if you like.

Sorry - if this post doesn't work. It is my first attempt to attach a photo.

Photo 1.) This is a picture of the overall project in Designer. Hidden under Commands in New Device 1 are most of the Commands for the project as built to date. Presently about 80. ROKU Device properties can be seen in the top window - "Main Device Properties.

Photo 2.) I built the Command "rouku_select" in Commands under Roku_Device. And it tested OK there. (Should it be with all my other Commands under Device 1)?

Photo 3.) I then put a Button "Select" on the "Watch roku Page".

Photo 4.) And assigned the "rouku_selec command" to it.

Then downloaded project to mini iPad.

Photo 5.) TV screen after opening ROKU Home Page with ROKU remote.

Photo 6.) I then scrolled over to You Tube icon using the remote. Then I clicked on the Select Button on my iPad as in photo 4. I expected You Tube to open to it's next screen as it always does using the remote. However nothing happened. ???? Any ideas are welcome.

DID you buy the app from the app store or are you on the free trial? When you tested the command in the builder did the ROKU respond? IF yes, then it should work on the iPad unless your on a different network. Some times closeing down the app on the iPad and restart can help. Make sure your iPad is connected to your WiFi.

Hi guys. I'm a current irule user looking for alternatives, and Demopad looks solid from reading this thread. But I'm not clear on the cost/design. Is it possible to download the builder on a pc and the app on an iPad, and control 1 IP AV device and 3 or 4 IR devices using a Global Cache IR device, all without cost? Or is the in app purchase required for that type of design and usage? If so, what is the cost of the in app purchase and is it a subscription or a one time fee? I'm just not clear on the pricing and what would be required for my needs if I went with Demopad. Sorry if I missed that answer somewhere on the thread or forum.

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Yes, I purchased the app.

I just tested the command from an apple laptop running Parallels and Windows 10. I had the Roku on the TV first. When I clicked check command, DemoPad said ok but there was no response on the TV.

The builder is some thing you can download for free onto a PC to create your design. The app is a one time purchase needed to be made unless you decided to buy one of there control units. If so you do not have to buy the app. DemoPad is compatiblewith your GC devices. You then have an option to pay a monthly fee if you want more drivers and better email support. With that being you really don't need to pay the monthly fee. I do just to help support them so hopefully I don't run into another iRule scenario.

I don't know if ruining windows from a Mac would effect the test feature in the builder. You could test by testing an IR command form the builder to the GC and see if it works. I would also DL one the ROKU app on your iPad and see if you can control the ROKU. If not then you have some thing going on with the ROKU or network.

Yes I was concerned also about using my Mac, but I don’t have a stand-alone Windows computer.

So I did both your requested tests:

From Designer in Windows on the laptop I checked the “volume up command”. Both the GC 100 and the emitter at the receiver blinked.

Secondly, I downloaded from the App Store to my mini iPad a Roku Remote app. The app worked just fine on everything I tried.

So I think both devices are connected well. Hope this helps.

Aren’t we down to either the address entries or the command? Maybe send me several other commands to try? Like cursor left and right?

From Designer in Windows on the laptop I checked the “volume up command”. Both the GC 100 and the emitter at the receiver blinked.

Secondly, I downloaded from the App Store to my mini iPad a Roku Remote app. The app worked just fine on everything I tried.

So I think both devices are connected well. Hope this helps.

Aren’t we down to either the address entries or the command? Maybe send me several other commands to try? Like cursor left and right?

Dave

You can try this, but you can see the commands are same structure.

When you installed the ROKU app did you have to enter in an IP? Maybe check in the app and see if you can find the IP. Beyond that I am a lost for words. You may want to email support. I know when you DL the app you can control one device with out paying for the app, for testing. Maybe some thing needs to be updated on your end. Which app did you DL for Demopad and how much did you pay?

When I downloaded the ROKU APP ti went very fast. I did not have to enter anything. It just downloaded and worked. I was able to go to settings in the app and see the address as 10.0.0.208. Just as we have been using.

HOWEVER GREAT NEWS:

Last night I decided to build another new (stand alone) very simple test project. So this morning, I did that. It only has one device "ROKU_Device" and one page. In TEST_IP_1 I had the two commands you have given me. And the COMMANDS WORKED!!! So I then added 4 more commands that I thought I could guess at, and they worked as well. See the picture of TEST_IP_2.

While building this test project, I made sure the ROKU BOX was on and also when I ran the test on each command.

I am not sure why it is working at this time, but it is.

SO:

1.) Would you please send me the balance of the keywords for the other buttons on the ROKU remote that aren't in the picture? I'm not sure what to call them in their CODES.
2.) Any ideas how I might now combine the two projects? Can I copy and paste things? Or, am I better off just building a new project or adding to the TEST_IP_2 project?
3.) I remember reading about organizing Commands in folders. Can I move them around for that at this late date?
4.) I will proceed very carefully and save the project with a different suffix as we go. So it will be easy to back up.

Again, THANK YOU very much for your effort. I would have never got to this point without it.
I'm feeling much better !!!
Dave

Before going any farther add your GC to your test project and see if that works. Am an still wondering if theirs some thing wrong with your account. for the free account will only let you use one device. So simple way is to add the GC to the new project. I believe you can find the codes on there forums. Sorry but don't have the time to paste every command into a post. You can open multiple projects and copy and paste. You can also export commands to file and then import into a new project too. Folders are nice just to separate commands. Especially for GC device. All depends on how you like to organize. Some people will only have one command for a device, then in the button set a variable and then launch the command. Many ways to do it.

Has anybody been able to get feedback from an Ecobee thermostat? If so, can you share what you did and how you did it?

HI,
I have now started to build a new project using both the GC 100-12 as Device 1 and a ROKU ULTRA as Device 2.
As you can see in the attached photo, I now have a number of pages, quite a few commands in IR and IP and everything is working fine.

It may just be a big consequence, but my problem disappeared right after I downloaded the ROKU app to my iPad and used it successfully.

Don't know, but problem solved.
Thanks,
Dave
