Weird question, what resolution to send faux 4K project

As the title says what resolution can you send a faux 4K projector. Jvc x790r in particular but many other take 4K use half the pixels and do the same thing. Could I then simpler send a half 4K resolution and not change the actual pixel density of the projector output. Or does this not work. Would be nice to add a bunch of FPS back to the games
