Gaming with Denon AVR-1610

I have an older Denon AVR-1610 that blew out the HDMI panel in a power surge a few years back, but it works fine for audio only....

Been using it with my PC via a 3.5mm -> RCA output (no digital out on the onboard sound) and some bookshelf speakers...

Question is... if I add a center channel speaker... is there any real advantage? Will it make sense? Maybe audyssey could do wonders, but I can't have true 5.1 in my setup, the room is just too weird a layout for it. Never really heard of a 3 channel setup for PC before, not sure if I should do it? I would need to purchase a center speaker
