Using a headphone amp with console gaming?

Is using an amp possible and is it beneficial for gaming? i.e improved clarity of sound or improved "bandwidth" of sound?

I have an Xbox One X. I connect my Sony WH1000-XM3 headphones to the Xbox controller via the 3.5mm stereo AUX cable. Not just a regular 3.5mm aux cable - but a Lovinstar 3.5mm Cable Boom Mic, to enable chat. The controller, of course, is wireless to the Xbox. Sound seems adequate -as good as or better than any headphones I have tried - and there is no perceptible lag. However there have been instances while playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare where so much was happening and so many discrete sounds were occurring that there is noticable distortion and the sound can clip a little (i.e. in Groundwar, when 60+ players, tanks, and jets are shooting etc). That happens like once a day. I'm not sure if the headphone drivers themselves are maxing out, or if the console->controller wireless bandwidth is maxing out, etc? Recently I wondered if an amp provided more power if that would improve the experience? I just wasn't sure since the XM3s are not passive headphones - they have their own internal rechargeable batteries. I have no experience with headphone amps. I'm not sure what brands to consider, and how they would interconnect with the XB1 & wireless controller & headphone and if it would interfere with the mic.
