Modern TVs are larger and thinner than ever. As a result, the risk of breaking a TV has increased along with the size of the screen itself.
As a TV reviewer I am acutely aware of the fragility of modern flat-screen TVs. Damage from transit, damage from installation and damage from accidental contact are all risks, and there are even reports of broken TV screens that cracked on their own. It is, of course, the nature of glass to shatter when stressed, and the larger TVs get the larger the sheet of glass is that sits inside.
With today’s 4K HDR TVs, the last thing you want to to is toss your remote at it. But you’ll also want to make sure kids don’t press their fingers too hard on the screen, or bump it. And for the DIY-minded out there, the larger the TV the more you should consider hiring a pro to install it. Don’t hang an 85″ TV on your wall unless you know exactly what you are doing when it comes to securing fixtures to wall studs, etc.
Anyhow, with all the ways modern TV can be damaged—starting with transporting the box in a horizontal position—I was wondering how many people have dealt with a broken TV screen, and am curious about what kind of backstory there is in each case. Hence, this poll. For the purpose of the poll, I’m only referring to TV screens that are physically broken, not screens having other issues. Also, you are allowed more than one reply unless you have never experienced a broken screen—in that instance there is only one right answer.
