Sony’s latest action camera, the RX0 II, packs a 1″ sensor into an impossibly small body, then adds 4K video with built-in stabilization and a flip-up screen. Wow!
The Sony RX0 II (DSC-RX0M2) is a new, ultra-compact action camera from Sony that offers numerous features that differentiated from the competition, including the latest offerings from GoPro. With an MSRP or $699.99, it is priced on the high end of action cam offerings, but for the money you get a Sony 15.3 megapixel stacked CMOS sensor that gives the f/4 (35mm equivalent) Zeiss lens a wide range of ISO sensitivity to work with, as well an enhanced dynamic range versus smaller sensor cameras.
The RX0 II is the successor to Sony’s RX0, which lacked the new model’s 4K recording capability, and also did not have a feature that’s sure to endear this new camera to vloggers: a flip-up screen. Add to that built-in electronic stabilization for video and this little sony starts to look very interesting!
It’ll be interesting to compare it to the GoPro Hero7 Black and the Osmo Pocket action cameras, to see how its image stabilization performs as compared to the latest from from DJI and GoPro. I expect to have a hands-on posted soon, before the end of April.
