  1. ReplayTV & Showstopper PVRs
I hope someone is still out there. I have a couple of ReplayTV 55xx units that I disconnected when we switched to HD several years ago. We’re planning on cutting the cord and using an antenna for local OTA. I’m wondering if my Replays are viable for recording from the antenna. Before...

Direct-TV was just at my house in NOVA to install an OTA antenna (ordered thru Sling for $150). It was not grounded as I expected which is two 8 (or 6) gauge ground wires: 1 from a grounding block on entry to the house on the roof and one from the mast to earth ground (about 40+ ft). What he...

Hi, I dont really have any technical experience in this field so my question may seem very elementary. I am installing a new HDTV antenna on my roof to receive local channels over the air. I ran the co-ax from the antenna on the roof to the existing cable co-ax in my attic then I connected the...

I bought this budget-style HDTV antenna from Amazon a while back, and it works pretty well, but only if I mount it awkwardly above my TV over the banister of the stairs. I feel like I'm in the 70's adjusting rabbit ears! The original plan was to mount it on the wall behind the TV, out of sight...

We have an antenna mounted around 15 feet in the air with around a 20 ft run of RG-6 cable to a grounding block. The ground block is not grounded though just used as a coupler. After the grounding block a run of around 30 feet of brand new RG-6 is used and goes into an ancient two way splitter...

I recently got this directional TV antenna with a rotor. I tested the rotor with its short (3 foot) coax cable to the control box and the motor in works fine. However, when I try mounting the antenna on my ~15 foot mast outside (formerly a DirecTV mast, with around 100 feet of coax running...

I own an Onkyo TX-SR501 and use a rabbit-ears antenna for FM reception. After turning on the receiver to listen to my favorite music station, there's no sound from my speakers. However, when I simply touch the antenna, the sound comes on. It's weird. Has anybody experienced this & what's the...

Hi Guys, With good research from here, TV fool HDtvprimer and antenna hacks, I have assembled a pretty good antenna and distribution system for my cord cutting. I needed two deep fringe antennas to deal with low elevation and trees and another lower gain in the opposite direction. A Solid...

On my 1992 Sony ST-S390 tuner i have an option called "ANT ATT". When this is enabled the signal strenght drops from 50-53dB to 36-39dB, but sound quality stays the same (i like to think it improves treble quality, but this is probably the Placebo effect). This is a A/B antenna tuner btw.:)

In this fake news era, it's difficult to tell what's tongue-in-cheek and what's not. But, it's always fun to read a sensational article. The Wall Street Journal published a piece (subscription required) that highlights the apparent discovery by clueless twentysomethings that televisions are...

I live 10 miles West of Cleveland, OH. I have an Antennas Direct Clearstream 4 HDTV Antenna mounted to my chimney (located approximately 2 to 3 feet above the peek of my 2 story house roof. Coax cable is run from there to my basement to an old 4 way UHF/VHF amplifier/splitter. From there, I...

I just installed a Clearstream 4 rooftop antenna pointed towards the TV transmitters. (Live about 15 miles southwest of DC) The pre amp I went with is the Winegard Boost XT and I have used Monster RG6 coax cables. I have a single 6 ft cable running from the antenna to the pre amp, a 100 foot...

I bought a large, Winegard multi-directional antenna from SolidSignal. I had been frustrated with Comcast and their constantly changing rates and decided to 'cut the cord'. We supplemented with the Roku at first, but then (like most I'm sure) we found that we couldn't watch local sports...
