Say you had to pick between one of these two greatreceivers, but one does not have PLIIx Game Mode, but one might have it, which would you pick?
A) Pioneer Elite Vsx 59TXI (has PLIIx, but no game mode)
B) Denon Avr 5803--3rd link (possible game mode and has PLIIx)
both are a little pricey...
I was wondering, when selecting Dolby Pro Logic II modes (either PL II Cinema or PL II Emulation aka Pl), and selecting the surround back to ON, will i hear the same sound from all the surround channels, like on Pioneer's receivers?
or can the "Widescreen" DSP mode do this, but cleaner...
after months of saving, i can finally purchase the avr of my dreams, the denon avr 5803, which has everything i need:
- ac-3 rf input for laserdiscs
- phono kack for lp's
- thx sound modes
- extra surround option (not height, wide or back surrounds)
- plenty of power
this is the one for...
If anyone can add their opinions please do so. I want something that will power my two Bowers & Wilkins 685 speakers and produce a beautiful sound in a bedroom setup. I have a few options:

Is there an easy way for a novice to tell if a receiver marked "AVR-5803" (or the European AVC-A1SR) is of the "A" variety? For instance, does it show its name (including "A" if so equipped) in the display on startup or something like that?
Any AVR-5803A och AVC-A1SRA owners out here who can...
So I currently have an Onkyo Integra DTR 7.9 and I like it alot and it seems to do what ever is asked.Now I have a chance to get a Denon AVR 5803 for $600.Would it be worth selling mine and getting the Denon or just keep mine and call it good.Thanks Ron
After a lightning strike, the Denon AVR-5803 appears to be completely dead. I've confirmed the plug is receiving power yet the red "Standby' LED does not light nor will the receiver come one.
