TCL 4K and 8K QLEDs at CES 2020

TCL has unveiled their new Vidrian Mini-LED technology at CES 2020, allowing you to experience picture clearer than ever. Chris Larson, Senior Vice President of TCL North America, explains the new technology.

“Mini-LED backlight technology is critical for delivering powerful contrast performance and TCL is proud to have launched the world’s first TV with mini-LED backlight, featuring over 25,000 micro-meter class backlights in the high-performance 2019 8-Series TV here in the US, and different models in other regions, to deliver extraordinary contrast and brilliant clarity. Last year’s launch of mini-LED backlight technology in TCL TVs disrupted the industry but we certainly aren’t stopping there. TCL continues to drive even better performance with this powerful mini-LED innovation and will make mini-LED technology more widely available throughout this year’s TCL lineup.”

One notable feature of TCL TVs powered by Vidrian Mini-LED is their ease at which they handle bright rooms. The technology is specifically designed to deliver exceptional contrast and brightness that not only rivals difficult rooms, but still gives you the picture quality you’d expect in even the best settings. By infusing glass sheets that span 65” or more inches across the surface of the TV with thousands upon thousands of tiny light sources and all the requisite circuitry, this type of powerful TV performance will be in a league of its own.

For 2020, mini-LED backlit technology will not just be available in the Flagship 8-Series, it will also be featured in the company’s mainstream 6-Series TVs. Both series combine mini-LED powered FALD with QLED to achieve high brightness levels and vivid colors. The 8-Series moves up to 8K resolution for 2020.

2020 TCL 8-Series and 6-Series models will appeal to gamers by featuring 120 Hz 4K with low input lag. 6-Series TVs will feature VRR. Furthermore, TCL will launch the first TVs with THX Game Mode. And that’s a bonus, TCL will issue a firmware update bringing VRR to compatible 2019 6-series TVs!

At the show, TCL also unveiled its 5-Series TVs that have a “regular” LED FALD backlight but do have QLED tech built in. This series aims to bring down the price of buying a high performance FALD to edge-lit LCD TV levels.

All three series (5, 6 and 8) offer support for HDR10+, in addition to Dolby Vision.
