$1,200 sub suggestions

My basement room is almost finished, it is roughly 4,200 ft^3. Thanks to some funding from my wife, I have some dough for a new sub. The unit will be used mostly for movies and video games, so the slam factor is at a premium. :D

If I had $1,200 to spend, I would buy the SVS PB12-Ultra sub. Movies, music, or anything else for that matter sounds unbelievable with the SVS PB12-Ultra sub. One of my friends has one, and it seems he loves his sub more than his girlfriend. *sigh.* I wish I had $1,200 to spend on a sub…
Look also into the SVS PB12-plus/2, The new Hsu VTF-3 HO or twin Hsu STF-3's, and the Axiom EP-500.
Ill give another nod for the PB Ultra. If you have a large room the +2 might be better thought. I have the Ultra in a 14x14 room and it is awesome!
I'm in the market for a sub in this price range. What about the Definitive Technologies Super Cube 1 (it has gotten some good reviews)?
the pb12 plus/2 over the ultra in a big room like that.
I'll throw my vote in for the SVS PB12-plus/2 given your requirements.
I also vote for the SVS PB12+2 :) It is almost as nice as living next door to a couple of friendly strippers :D

I'm thinking of adding a second SVS PB12+2 ...................not because I need it , But because I have no idea when to quit ;)
I would recommend the Plus/2 as well. The extra output will be a Good Thing (tm) for your room. I have a leaky 4761^3 feet room and there are days when I wish I spent an extra $450 for the Plus/2 versus my 20-39PC+.
count me in on another PB12-Ultra vote :D ..... you will get slightly more headroom with the PB12+/2, and you will get slightly better "sound quality" from the Ultra....
Is the sound quality for music that much better with the Ultra series to warrant giving up the extra headroom of the +/2 sub? Any other notable differences with the Ultra SVS subs? My setup is for about 65% music/35% HT. The room is 21' D x 16' W with 12' ceilings and the sub will be used with KEF Reference Twos.

everyone of the SVS owners will have a preference here....your best bet is to call up SVS and ask them. Ron Stimpson has always preached what I've been saying, which is that the Ultra's sound quality is better than the Plus.....and obviously, by using two plus drivers you will get slightly better headroom, so it really is up to your listening preferences and your volume level habits....

at 65% music, and if you dont listen to it at house crumbling levels, I think it is safe to say the Ultra will serve your needs better. Unless of course, you want to really feel the windows shake, in which case I say buy two Ultras :D

Absolutely. I have had both a 20-39PC+ and now a PC Ultra. There is a difference, and it is quite notable.

AsahiToro,

For your room and needs, the Ultra is the way to go.

jb00007777,

While I am a big Ultra advocate, that's a heck of a lot of room to fill. Looks like the PB12-Plus/2 is your answer.

For a room that large you need at least 2 subwoofers. If you buy just one you will find large gaps in bass reproduction and uneven performance from seat to seat. The temptation will be to compensate by raising volumes and possibly overdriving a sole sub. Best to do it right at the outset and double up the subs or plan for adding a second sub in the not too distant future. Also make sure you get two of the same subs if you go that route. I'm partial to four Axiom subs but any two of those mentioned above will perform well for you.
