I am setting up a home theater room in my basement - there will also be a separate plasma TV in an adjoining room. Can I use one HD cable box for both TVs?

Two possible ways I though of would be: 1) an HDMI cable from the HD cable box into the AV receiver and an HDMI splitter to split the outbound signal from the AV receiver to the two screens or 2) using HDMI cable from my HD cable box into my AV receiver for my projector and using a separate component cable from the HD cable box directly to my plasma.

Does anyone know if either of these methods would work or would I need two separate cable boxes?

Thanks for any feedback!
