Absolutely. If they won't allow you to pay them to do it, pay someone else to do it, or at the least let you do it yourself, they wouldn't have my business. Are you locked in to a contract already? Started construction?

I applaud their commitment to solid wireless with Rukus and if needed multiple Enterprise grade AP (assuming that's what they have planned for your house).

But that should be in addition to, not as a replacement for, good structured wiring. There are some things like control signaling, audio return channels, HDMI or other hi def video distribution over IP, Poe to cameras or other, that are more difficult, less reliable, or even impossible with current wireless options.

I bought a custom home and the custom builder retired....my point is the cost of a home is not determined by name of builder in most cases but quality upon inspection. after reading up on lennar I dont see anything special...just bunch of negatives really.

I assume they won't put in conduit either...

Figure $30K of that $100k "savings" to run the wires post build. vs. $5K to run them during the build.
Take pictures of everything right before the insulation goes in if you do decide to move forward with this tract builder.
Makes it easier to make a plan and avoid the plumbing / conventional wiring et al when you put in the good stuff.
Wireless is good in theory, not so good in practice especially when you add a lot of devices to it or put in bandwidth heavy functions (streaming media to multiple locations).

I would hope your breaker box will have a couple empty spaces for future additional lines....if not thats thousands of dollars in upgrade.
