Hello,
I'm working with a $1000 budget for a set of towers and a center to be hooked with a Pioneer VSX 1019. This is for my father, who's relegating his old JBL Decade 26's to surround duty (yes, they're a bit massive for surround, but at this point they don't sound as nice as they used to and aren't suitable for heavy lifting). Considered trying to find a steal on JBL L880s and LC1/2, also I've tried to talk him in to spending a bit more and going with, or at least auditioning, the Aperion 5Ts and the matching center, however that's just beyond what he's comfortable spending. Fair enough. Notably missing from this line up is the sub, which he plans on purchasing at a later date, so it would be nice to have towers that can provide at least decent low-end punch on their own, though ultimately not a huge issue as there will be a sub in this system eventually.
So, that's the long of it. Anyone have better suggestion than the JBLs? I was able to audition them in a listening room at a local shop, and they sounded great, however it was a shorter audition than I would have liked. If anyone has had any longer term exposure to them I'd love to hear about it. Infinitys have also been suggested, but from what I can see, the Cascade series has not been kindly reviewed, and the next step up is out of the price range. Ok, I'm done talking, thanks for the help.
