I recently ordered a replacement lamp for my HLN617W from samsungparts.com (J&J) and ran into the following:

Lamp Ordered: BP96-00224E Phillips 120W (per sticker on side of TV)

Lamp Shipped per Invoice: BP96-00224J Phillips 120W

Lamp Actually Received: BP96-00224C Phillips 100W

Customer service at J&J stated that Samsung has approved the use of the "C" 100W lamp for the HLN617W.

Has anyone heard this? Has anyone installed a 100W lamp in the HLN617W replacing the the original 120W lamp? If so, has this been acceptable?

Appreciate any info before the 30 return policy runs out.

I would call Samsung customer service. This really does not seem right and it seems either you will get a shorter lamp life or a dimmer picture. To me if the set came with a 120 watt lamp it should be replaced with a 120 watt lamp.

The HLP 6163 has a 100 watt bulb...ballast makes it work at 120 watts. I was told this from a Samsung tech. I feel the same way Paulgo feels shorter life span and dimmer picture.
