Hi. I just got the dealer installation manual for the 1030Q1, and it says that the unit can do a 72" or a 100" wide (horizontal) screen. My desired screen size is 80" wide (horizontal). Is there any way to get this size on this projector?

Also, I plan to use this pj to watch 16X9 material. How do I tweak this PJ to make that the default aspect ratio? The tubes on my PJ have hardly been used at all.

Thanks for all your help.

Ive got one of these in storage as we speak, and as I remember this pj, Keep the screen width down to 80" and even better at 73" because they have the sd-130 tubes which aren,t as bright, It,s a matter of following the manual for the screen width/throw distance dim,s , Trying to large a screen and pushing it will activate the crt limiting circuit. As for the 4:3 image, this older design doesn,t have a 16/9 mode Set your DVD player to 16/9 mode and then put on a test dvd 16/9 grid pattern which contains circles, and then use the vertical width trim pot to "squeeze" down the grid pattern untill the circles are round and your ready to rumble. Of course now all your 4:3 material will be S T R E T C H E D horizontal but who cares

i have a sony 1031q and my screen is 110 diagonal, or 88x66 and my picture is just fine with bright whites, blackest blacks (thanks again vic)and the focus is perfect so you can get a big picture out of a little machine without compromising picture quality , just play with it a little bit and you,ll find the machines sweet spot......

80" wide on a 4x3 screen is 100" diagonal. That's what sony means in the manual. So set the rings and spacers to 100". Then set up the projector for an optimum image at that width. After that, turn the master vertical size pot on the board underneath the convergenc board to squeeze the vertical down to 16x9. Don't touch the horizontal.
