woo woo! Been talking with several of you, especially Curt Palme. (Big thanks for your help, Curt!)
Anyway, I'm not snarfing popcorn on the couch, but the boat anchor has a new heartbeat. As I worked my way through the projector under Curt's tutilage, I discovered the tubes started to flash when I touched certain parts of the convergence board. The more I tweeked around, the closer I got to being able to keep em on. It turns out the 'lip' on the back of the aluminium 'lid' was bent in just a hair, causing contact somewhere on the board. this thing...

So I bent it out a bit and the tubes are on like there were never a problem.
Now it's down to me putting the lenses back in tomorrow and getting the image converged.
I'm sure I'll have more questions. For example, she runs fine without the fans. Can I leave them off safely? I know some of you prefer to not have the extra noise. I'd rather not hear the fans myself.
I can't say enough how much I appreciate you all for helping me get started in this hobby.
I thought you might like to see what the tubes looked like "off" here's a pix.

The photo shows more reflection off the glass than anything else. When you look close, there's a very faint wear mark on the blue tube. But other than that, I can't see any other wear or burns. What do y'all think? These tubes have a decent amount of time left on them?
Of course, the exterior covers were all pretty much toast. The tube 'grill' is all busted up. If anyone has any spare case parts, please let me know. I'm debating whether I want to find new cover parts or just build a custom cabinet for it out of oak once I get it set up and working.
Thanks again to everyone. I've found a set up guide online at projectorspecs. I think that will see me through basic convergence. I bet I'm going to have more questions for 'ye masters' tho.
