1080i/1135i color problem

I have some color problem with my Hi-vision MUSE setup. My projector (LT150) syncs on the 1080i/1135i RGB or YpbPr signal from decoder. But the picture looks like if you only have 16 different colors to choose from. I suspect that my cables don't have enough bandwidth for the 1135i signal. At the moment I'm using a normal "digital audio" 75-ohm coax between the Pioneer HLD-X9 and the Sony MSC-4000 MUSE decoder, could that be a problem? Between the decoder and the projector I use "high resolution" (whatever that means) cables except for the last 2"! The reason for this is that it terminates in a VGA connector and I could simply not solder the thick coax to the connector. Could this 2" of cable actually degrade the bandwidth so much that it's noticeable?

Just a guess here. I wouldn't think cable problems would cause that 'only-16-color' effect. My only suggestion would be to triple check all the electronic menus involved in the setup. As I discovered with my Philips HDTV RPTV recently, a menu selection somehow changed by itself (HDTV format), which resulted in a unusual HDTV display (16:9 HDTV became ~14:9 with blurring of image edges). For that input mode, you clearly need a known 'good' signal source as a reference. But if you're saying in your last sentence that you haven't provided a complete ground path in your cable shielding, yes, that could cause serious signal problems!-- John
I made a new breakout cable from an old PC monitor cable. The result was unfortunately the same. Here is how it looks likes.
