Can a HTPC output a 1080i HDTV signal, if so what video card (s) would do that?

Since most computers are used to drive monitors, interlaced output is vanishing from video card support. Not a video card, but check the treads on the MyHD MDP-100 HDTV PC card and powerbuy. It outputs 1080i from HDTV and the video card with patch cable (possibly with some overscan.

You can, but with select cards and drivers. The 1st gen Radeons, and the 7200 can with drivers 7075, 7089 and 7093.
