1080p Madness!

I don't have much time left to decide if I want to keep my new Sharp 46D62U LCD or return it for a different set (a Sony 40XBR2).

First of all, I really do like the Sharp but after reading about banding (although I don't notice anything irregular at the moment), I started to get second thoughts.

However, this is not the only reason for considering the return.

I hate the remote control on the Sharp.. backlight only comes on after i fumble through and find the button, menu navigation is laggy and the biggest problem, no VGA port. I am using the TV for mainly Xbox360 only and I'm getting 1080p through component. I really wanted to hook up the xbox360 through vga to possibly get a better picture and for DVD upscaling as well. Also wish to connect my PC for some PC gaming.

Sony on the other hand, does have vga port which supports 1080p, now that MS released an update. I'm worried about the clouding issues with the Sony and Sony's 40" XBR2 is the same price as my Sharp 46D62U.

To get rid of the things I don't like on the Sharp (the cheap remote, laggy menus, lack of VGA port and some minor personal problems), would the Sony's 40" XBR2 do it for me? It looked stunning at the store and it does seem to have everything I wanted (vga 1080p, better remote, some other minor stuff) but I'm just really worried that I'll have clouding issues. I really like the Sharp but the lack of PC input (to use for my PC and xbox360) is making me want to get a Sony (or anything else comparable).

I need to decide soon or else I won't be able to return this Sharp. I am willing to sacrifice the extra 6 inches for a set that suits me better.

Thanks in advance guys!

i bought my xbr2 46 before christmas and it is stellar. no clouds whatsoever.

why don't you just test the set at the store before you bring it home?
40" is too small IMO, also new a 92 series Sharp is due very soon too, with more inputs, not sure if it has VGA.

VGA for the 360 is really the only significant thing you mentioned, and with even a 46" set you would have to sit very very close to see the diff between component 1080i and VGA 1080p with the 360.

If you got decent price and have no banding, I'd keep it.
Thanks for the reply guys...

First of all, the reason I want VGA port is for DVD movie upscaling and playing PC games on it as well as Xbox360. I do tend to sit very close to the TV, about 4~6 feet from it.

I won't say how much I got the sharp 46d62u for but they are selling the 40" XBR2 for the same price. TV is used just by me personally, in my own room so I don't need a huge screen.

I just want something that has the things I want with no defects.

I would keep this Sharp but not having the VGA port is just bothering me... not to mention that the remote controller sucks hardcore..

Mitsudude, do those models support 1080p through VGA port?
