110" Vutec Silverstar paired with JVC-RS1U ?

1176 Views 4 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  kram1
Will a 110" Vutec Silverstar paired with my RS1 be to big with a seating distance of 11' ?

Room 13' x 22'

Ceiling white 8' walls are light tan

Throw 11.5'

Seating Distance 11'

Mounted on a shelf 20 inches from the ceiling

My installer friend says the Vutec Silverstar is the best way to go with a RS1s low brightness ?

He can get me a 110" Vutec Silverstar for like 1K

I live in Florida and Vutec located near me.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for a screen ?

Better bang for the buck maybe ?

I have it setup as a main TV for everyday viewing in my living room.

I can control the Ambient light but I like to have some dim lights on in or around the room 90 percent of the time unless I'm watching a movie then i shut down all the lights

I don't think it will be too big, but you might be bothered by the appearance of the screen surface. It tends to show up easily on the Silverstar, due to the nature of the surface and the fact that it is high gain. Get a demo at Vutec or somewhere if you have not already done so and see if that is an issue for you.

The Silverstar is not the best screen for rooms with ambient light.

What would be the better choice for rooms with ambient light ?

I should add the issue with the appearance of the screen surface gets better as you move further back. From 11 feet from a 110" Silverstar, it bothered me, but a few feet back from that, it was much less of an issue.

If you want a high gain screen, the better choice may be the Da-lite High Power. You would want to lower the projector so that you would get the most value from the retroflective nature of the screen. The brighter the image, the better, when it comes to fighting ambient light. Ambient light is going to compromise the image more than anything.
