From this week, offical and commercial HDTV terrestrial digital broadcasting will commence in Korea.( During past 2 years , we had HDTV experimental and test period.)

we also had heavy discussion on ATSC and COFDM issue.

But we decided to support ATSC for our terrestrial Digital broadcasting method.

5 stations will air HDTV signal . First year, 10 hour mandatory HDTV programs will be forced, other programs will be aired updated 1080i signal.

People in Seoul( capital of Korea) can receive 5 domestic terrestial HDTV signal along with 7 Japanese HDTV signal( their own method) with 1.6m parabola antenna .

So total 12 different HDTV channels are pouring to the people in Seoul( capital of Korea) area.

I think this 12 HDTV channel can not be found elsewhere but Seoul area.

I hope ATSC HDTV signal will live long.

Great news about the HDTV. Spotted an article by Don Kirk in today's New York Times business section that said 40 percent of S.Korean households now use broadband connections, twice that of any other country. The article was primarily about a new deal between Samsung and Microsoft. -- John
