I've been wondering for some time why my SD pictures looked dull and lifeless--especially b/w images. I wondered if the problem was low video input level and maybe there wasn't enough gain in the projector circuitry to make up for the loss. I tested my theory by adding 3dB of gain using an external amplifier. I would caution that increasing the signal levels may not apply to everyone, but it sure helped me and I think it worth a try if things aren't looking right in your system. BTW, even with the added gain, I have the contrast set at 100%. Note that I run signals directly into my 12S-1, i.e., no intermediate processing.
