What type of cable do I need to use for a 12v trigger from my PJ or audio distribution devices? Is it standard Cat5? Can I use the same cable that I'm using for my IR distribution?

The answer would depend on the distance you are sending the voltage but for short distances or if you combined conductors for longer runs CAT-5 would work. Typically, I use 18-20 gage multi conductor wire. When in doubt, use speaker wire.

Yeah, but be sure to use the el-cheapo leftover nasty speaker wire you've had boxed up in the basement for the last decade or two!


Actually, two pairs (of the four) of cat5 should be perfect. Not sure how many strands you need for IR, but I don't see why that wouldn't work over the same cable.
